The Head of Training is responsible for raising the capability, consistency, and commercial effectiveness of the sales teams and wider business across the UK and US. This role has full ownership of how retail and the wider business are trained, developed, and supported to perform at their best. Training must be practical, engaging, efficient, and measurable, with clear evidence that it drives improved performance, quality, and business results. The role will lead and manage the training team responsible for delivery of the training plan. However, the successful candidate must also have the experience, credibility, and capability to personally design and deliver training to the same standard as the experienced team, ensuring relevance, quality, and strong leadership by example.

Training Strategy & Ownership

  • Own the end-to-end training framework across the UK and US operations.
  • Build training strategies aligned to business objectives, growth plans, and performance priorities.
  • Ensure training effectiveness is clearly measured through performance outcomes and KPIs.
  • Continuously review and refine training based on data, feedback, and business needs.
  • Utilise sales performance data to support in identifying training opportunities to deliver targeted training.

Leadership of Training Function

  • Lead, develop, and manage a team responsible for designing and delivering training.
  • Set clear expectations and quality standards for training design and delivery.
  • Coach and develop the team to continuously improve capability and impact.
  • Maintain hands-on involvement to ensure training remains grounded in operational reality.

Hands-On Delivery & Credibility

  • Set clear direction for the team to design and deliver, while also being capable of getting involved and supporting design and delivery when required.
  • Ensure all training content delivered by the team reflects best practice, commercial relevance, and operational realism.
  • Lead by example, demonstrating the behaviours and standards expected of the training function.

Leadership Partnership

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with senior leadership, especially throughout the retail estate.
  • Work closely with leaders to understand current needs, challenges, and priorities.
  • Ensure training plans reflect real-world sales activity and customer interactions.
  • Regularly spend time in the business to stay connected to frontline operations.

Onboarding & Performance Improvement

  • Oversee structured onboarding programmes that accelerate time-to-performance.
  • Identify and address under-performance through targeted training and coaching.
  • Support leaders with frameworks and tools to sustain performance improvements.

Succession & Talent Development

  • Develop clear pathways for high performers and future leaders.
  • Support succession planning for key sales and leadership roles.
  • Ensure training supports long-term engagement, retention, and growth.

International Oversight

  • Maintain consistent training standards across UK and US operations.
  • Travel to the US periodically to support delivery, audits, and performance initiatives.

About You

Essential

  • Senior experience in sales training, sales leadership, or performance improvement.
  • Proven experience managing and developing a training or L&D team.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and personally deliver high-impact training.
  • Strong commercial acumen with clear evidence of performance improvement.
  • Ability to influence and partner with senior retail leaders.

Desirable

  • Experience supporting international or multi-site sales teams.
  • Background in retail, showroom, or consultative sales environments.
