About the role

We're looking for a proactive and hands-on Building Assistant to join our team and play a key role in the day-to-day operation, maintenance and compliance of our complex buildings.This is a varied role suited to someone with practical trade skills, a strong understanding of health and safety requirements, and a commitment to delivering excellent service. No two days are the same, and you'll have the opportunity to make a real difference by ensuring our buildings remain safe, compliant and welcoming for residents and colleagues.

Day in the life of a Building Assistant

As a Building Assistant, you'll support the ongoing maintenance and operation of our buildings through a range of activities, including:

  • Carrying out building compliance and safety checks, including emergency lighting tests, fire equipment inspections, fire door checks, water hygiene assessments and security inspections.
  • Maintaining accurate records and documentation for all compliance activities.
  • Completing minor repairs and maintenance tasks such as plumbing, carpentry, decorating and plastering.
  • Supporting the upkeep and presentation of the building and its services.
  • Managing waste and refuse processes, including bin rotation, waste collection and liaising with local authorities and waste management contractors.
  • Acting as a key point of contact for contractors and trade operatives, coordinating access and supporting planned maintenance works.
  • Completing administrative tasks including inspection reports, job logging, monitoring repairs and communicating with colleagues and external partners.
  • Attending meetings and contributing to the continuous improvement of building services.

What we're looking for

You'll be someone who enjoys practical work, takes pride in maintaining high standards and can work independently as well as part of a team.

Requirements include

  • A trade-based qualification and/or time served experience within a trade.
  • Basic multi-skilled trade abilities and general DIY skills.
  • Experience working within a maintenance, facilities or building-related environment.
  • Knowledge of health and safety requirements and safe working practices.
  • Three GCSEs (or equivalent), including Maths and English at Grade C/4 or above.
  • Experience using IT systems to record and manage work activities.
  • A full UK driving licence.
