The predicted salary is between 40000 - 50000 £ per year.

This is a full time role (37 hours per week), working on a hybrid basis from our main office in Swindon. As a Principal Civil Engineer in the Wastewater Engineering and Operations Team you will take technical leadership on research projects, develop existing water engineering and asset management services, and develop and implement new service offerings with client organisations, specifically focused on water and wastewater sectors both in the UK and overseas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Business Development: Supporting in sales and marketing activities, contributing to bids and proposals and using social media to promote WRc and the wider RSK Group. Meet defined Sales and Delivery targets. Work with other technical specialists to help develop and contribute to research projects such as WRc Portfolio. Provide technical input into project development, proposal definition, and costing. Provide thought leadership in the industry, for UK and international clients and communities.
  • Delivery: Provide civil engineering input into asset surveys, pipeline condition assessments, feasibility studies, optioneering, whole life costing, and preliminary designs. Provide technical and engineering leadership, guidance and support to relevant WRc projects and to the wider WRc team. Support WRc Assured in providing accreditation services to businesses looking to demonstrate their processes are effective, efficient and compliant with current best practices. Provide the technical sign-off and assurance during technical delivery, linking to WRc Assurance. Write project reports, engineering standards, and produce other required project outputs, delivering to time and within budget. Support project managers in activities such as project delivery reviews to identify opportunities for continuous improvement in performance focusing on customer satisfaction, performance consistency and reliability.

Actively own and complete the performance coaching process and agree areas for personal development with your performance coach to identify ways you can proactively learn new skills.

Person Specification:

  • Chartered civil engineer (or working towards) with extensive experience in the water industry.
  • Experience in directing and supporting junior staff in technical areas.
  • Understanding the regulatory framework required to achieve compliance with our engineering regulatory requirements.
  • Be knowledgeable in one or more of the following: water utilities, civil infrastructure design, and construction, water/wastewater treatment works, and hydraulics design and construction.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret large data sets from an engineering perspective and use for planning and operational requirements.
  • Understanding of UK water company operations.
