We are looking for an experienced, organised and client-focused Bookkeeper and VAT Technician to join our Nantwich team. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working closely with owner-managed businesses, keeping financial records accurate and up to date, and helping clients feel confident with their bookkeeping, VAT and cloud accounting systems.

What You’ll Be Doing
- Process and maintain accurate accounting records for a portfolio of clients.
- Record sales invoices, purchase invoices, receipts, payments, and journals.
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and balance sheet accounts.
- Maintain client records within cloud accounting software.
- Assist with month-end and year-end bookkeeping processes.
VAT & Making Tax Digital (MTD)
- Prepare and submit VAT returns accurately and within deadlines.
- Support clients in meeting their Making Tax Digital obligations.
- Review VAT treatments and identify any potential issues or opportunities.
- Liaise with clients regarding VAT queries and record-keeping requirements.
- Keep up to date with VAT legislation and HMRC guidance.
Client Service
- Build strong relationships with clients and become a trusted, reliable point of contact for day-to-day bookkeeping and VAT queries.
- Provide practical bookkeeping and software support, helping clients improve the quality and timeliness of their records.
- Assist clients with cloud accounting systems such as Dext and Xero.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across accounts, tax and client management teams, escalating issues and sharing information clearly.
- Contribute to a positive team culture by being proactive, dependable and willing to support colleagues when priorities change.
About You
We’re looking for someone who combines strong technical bookkeeping skills with the right attitude and approach. You will be someone who:
- Has proven bookkeeping experience within practice or industry, ideally working with a range of clients or businesses.
- Has solid knowledge of VAT and Making Tax Digital requirements.
- Is confident using cloud accounting software (Xero experience desirable).
- Has excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Can manage multiple deadlines effectively.
- Communicates clearly and professionally with clients and colleagues.
- Is proactive, approachable and willing to take ownership of their work.
- Enjoys being part of a team and values collaboration, support and shared success.
AAT qualification (desirable but not essential).
