We're working with a well-established and growing transport and logistics business in London Gateway, who are looking to appoint an experienced Container Transport Planner to join their operations team. This is a key position within the business, suited to someone who is confident working independently, managing a high-volume fleet, and making real-time operational decisions in a fast-paced environment.
The Role
You'll be responsible for planning and coordinating container movements across the UK, ensuring maximum efficiency, service levels, and cost control. Key responsibilities include:
- Planning and managing the daily operations of 20+ HGV trucks
- Coordinating container collections and deliveries to and from ports
- Optimising routes to maximise efficiency and minimise empty running
- Liaising with drivers, customers, and port operations teams
- Managing changes, delays, and operational challenges in real time
- Ensuring compliance with driver hours, transport regulations, and company procedures
- Maintaining accurate planning records and system updates
- Delivering high levels of customer service at all times
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience in container transport planning
- Ability to independently manage 20+ trucks in a busy operation
- Strong working knowledge of TOPS (Traffic Office Processing System)
- Booking and managing deliveries via VBS (Vehicle Booking Systems)
- Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills
- Confident communicator with the ability to manage drivers and stakeholders
- Ability to remain calm and make decisions under pressure
- Strong attention to detail and commercial awareness
