Position: Container Transport Planner

Location: Stanford-le-Hope

Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 + Electric Company Car (DOE)

Hours: Monday to Friday (Full Time)

We're working with a well-established and growing transport and logistics business in London Gateway, who are looking to appoint an experienced Container Transport Planner to join their operations team.

This is a key position within the business, suited to someone who is confident working independently, managing a high-volume fleet, and making real-time operational decisions in a fast-paced environment.

The Role

You'll be responsible for planning and coordinating container movements across the UK, ensuring maximum efficiency, service levels, and cost control.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Planning and managing the daily operations of 20+ HGV trucks
  • Coordinating container collections and deliveries to and from ports
  • Optimising routes to maximise efficiency and minimise empty running
  • Liaising with drivers, customers, and port operations teams
  • Managing changes, delays, and operational challenges in real time
  • Ensuring compliance with driver hours, transport regulations, and company procedures
  • Maintaining accurate planning records and system updates
  • Delivering high levels of customer service at all times

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience in container transport planning
  • Ability to independently manage 20+ trucks in a busy operation
  • Strong working knowledge of TOPS (Traffic Office Processing System)
  • Booking and managing deliveries via VBS (Vehicle Booking Systems)
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills
  • Confident communicator with the ability to manage drivers and stakeholders
  • Ability to remain calm and make decisions under pressure
  • Strong attention to detail and commercial awareness
