An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Road Freight Commercial Manager to join a well-established and growing freight forwarding business based in Tamworth. This is a key commercial leadership role within a dynamic, multi-modal operation handling air, sea and road freight, with a strong focus on European and domestic road freight.

The Role
Reporting into senior management, you will take full ownership of the road freight commercial function, overseeing both import and export operations. You will be responsible for managing and supporting two Road Freight Operators, acting as the escalation point for operational issues, and ensuring best-in-class service delivery to customers. This is a hands-on role that blends commercial strategy, sales, procurement, and operational leadership, making it ideal for someone who understands road freight from start to finish and enjoys driving both revenue and performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Full commercial ownership of the road freight department (European & domestic)
- Line management of two Road Freight Operators, including performance support and development
- Acting as the senior escalation point for operational, customer, and supplier issues
- Managing supplier procurement, rate negotiations, and commercial agreements
- Supporting and developing new and existing business through sales and commercial activity
- Ensuring operational processes run smoothly from booking through to final delivery
- Collaborating with the wider office team (across air, road, and sea)
- Driving service quality, margin performance, and customer satisfaction
About You
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Proven experience in road freight operations (European & domestic)
- Strong end-to-end knowledge of road freight processes (import & export)
- A background in commercial sales and/or procurement (essential)
- Previous experience in a supervisory or management role
- The confidence to handle escalations and high-pressure situations
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- A commercially minded approach with a focus on growth and performance
