The Opportunity
We're working with an established and highly respected international logistics business that is looking to strengthen its Southampton operation with an experienced Multimodal Freight Operator. This is a great opportunity for someone with a solid background in freight forwarding and import operations who is looking to join a well-established business where there is genuine scope to develop your knowledge across multiple modes and take ownership of your customers and shipments. The company has a strong reputation within the logistics sector, with an international network and a broad range of services across air, ocean and road freight. You'll be joining an established team in Southampton and working within a professional but personable environment.
The Role
As a Multimodal Freight Operator, you'll be responsible for managing shipments from booking through to final delivery, ensuring customers receive a high level of service throughout. Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing day-to-day import and export freight operations
- Coordinating ocean, air and road freight shipments
- Managing shipments from initial booking through to delivery
- Liaising with customers, overseas offices, shipping lines, airlines, hauliers and other suppliers
- Preparing and checking shipping documentation
- Completing UK Customs entries via CDS
- Ensuring shipments comply with customs and regulatory requirements
- Handling customer queries and providing regular shipment updates
- Working with internal teams to ensure shipments move efficiently and to agreed deadlines
- Monitoring costs, charges and invoicing
- Building strong working relationships with customers and suppliers
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who already understands the fundamentals of freight forwarding and can confidently manage their own shipments.
Essential:
- Previous experience within freight forwarding
- Strong import operations experience
- Hands-on experience completing Customs entries via CDS
- Good understanding of the end-to-end freight forwarding process
- Experience using CargoWise or a similar freight forwarding system
