Salary: Up to £34,000 per annum (depending on experience)

Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:30 - 17:00 (37.5 hours per week)

The Opportunity

We're looking for an experienced Freight Accounts Clerk to join our established freight forwarding team based in Southampton. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in both freight forwarding and accounts who enjoys working with figures, ensuring financial accuracy and supporting the smooth running of operations. Working closely with the Operations team, you'll play a key role in validating costs, raising customer invoices, managing accruals and helping maximise the profitability of every shipment. Key Responsibilities

  • Validate supplier invoices against agreed buy rates.
  • Verify charges from shipping lines, haulage companies, Port Health and other third-party suppliers.
  • Produce accurate customer invoices in a timely manner.
  • Ensure all chargeable costs are correctly captured and invoiced.
  • Process shipment accruals and maintain accurate financial records.
  • Review uninvoiced shipments ahead of month-end deadlines.
  • Investigate invoice queries, cost discrepancies and profit variances.
  • Process high-volume supplier invoices, including shipping lines, terminals and haulage providers.
  • Support month-end financial reporting and close procedures.
  • Produce and analyse shipment profitability reports.
  • Work closely with the Operations team to ensure financial accuracy across all shipments.
  • Maintain accurate records within the freight forwarding management system.
  • Assist with improving financial processes, controls and operational efficiencies.

Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience within freight forwarding, logistics or supply chain.
  • Good understanding of freight forwarding charges and supplier cost structures.
  • Experience checking supplier invoices and producing customer invoices.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Good organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritise workloads within a busy operational environment.
  • Experience using freight forwarding software.
  • Knowledge of sea freight import operations.
  • Understanding of accruals and month-end accounting processes.
  • Experience dealing with shipping lines, haulage providers and customs-related charges.
