We're partnering with a leading international logistics and transport organisation to recruit an experienced Customs Clerk for their fast-paced UK & Ireland operation. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the smooth, compliant, and efficient movement of freight through customs processes, supporting both import and export operations within a 24/6 logistics environment.

The Role
Working within a specialist customs and operations team, you will be responsible for managing customs documentation, supporting nightly freight movements, and ensuring shipments are processed accurately and on time. This is a high-responsibility role where attention to detail, urgency, and strong communication skills are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Process export and customs documentation within strict operational deadlines
- Prepare transport documentation and manifests for scheduled freight departures
- Ensure all customs clearances are completed accurately to avoid delays
- Liaise with customs authorities, operational teams, and customers to resolve issues efficiently
- Complete safety and security declarations in line with current regulations
- Support AWB and manifest creation for international shipments
- Maintain accurate reporting and transactional records
- Identify opportunities to improve customs processes and operational efficiency
What We're Looking For
Experience & Knowledge
- Minimum 2 years' experience in customs, import/export, or freight forwarding
- Exposure to air freight and/or road freight operations
- Strong understanding of UK customs regulations and compliance procedures
- Experience using HMRC systems including CDS and CHIEF
- Relevant customs or international trade qualifications would be advantageous
Skills & Attributes
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong organisational and prioritisation skills
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a time-sensitive operation
- Confident communicator with a proactive mindset
- Good IT skills, including Excel and customs systems
- Commercial awareness and understanding of operational impact
Working Hours
- Full-time, 40 hours per week
- Rotating shifts across a 24-hour operation (Monday-Saturday)
- Flexibility required as part of a 2-week shift rota
