An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Compliance Manager (Transport) to join a leading food and drink distributor at their Manchester site. This is a key leadership position focused on ensuring full legal and regulatory compliance across the transport operation. This role would suit a highly organised transport professional with strong working knowledge of Operator Licence compliance, fleet governance, and transport legislation, who is ready to take ownership of compliance standards within a fast-paced distribution environment.
The Role
As Compliance Manager (Transport), you will hold responsibility for maintaining full compliance across the transport function, ensuring adherence to all relevant legislation, Operator Licence requirements, and health & safety standards. You will act as the site's Transport Compliance lead, working closely with operational teams to ensure vehicles, drivers and processes meet legal and company standards at all times. This is a hands-on leadership role with accountability for compliance systems, audit readiness, fleet standards, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the nominated CPC holder and ensure full compliance with Operator Licence obligations
- Maintain and oversee all transport compliance systems, policies and procedures
- Ensure adherence to DVSA regulations, Working Time Directive, tachograph regulations and driver hours legislation
- Oversee fleet compliance including servicing schedules, MOTs, inspections, defect reporting and maintenance planning
- Manage internal and external transport audits, ensuring documentation is accurate and audit-ready
- Lead incident reporting, investigations, and corrective actions in line with legal requirements
- Ensure robust driver compliance processes including licence checks, training records and inductions
- Monitor and report on compliance KPIs and implement continuous improvement initiatives
- Work collaboratively with operations to ensure service delivery aligns with compliance standards
- Provide guidance and training to management and drivers on transport legislation and best practice
Requirements
- Valid National or International CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) - Essential
- Proven experience in a transport compliance or transport management role
- Strong working knowledge of Operator Licence compliance and DVSA regulations
- Experience managing fleet compliance in a commercial vehicle environment
- Confident leading investigations and managing regulatory processes
- Strong organisational skills with high attention to detail
- Experience within foodservice or FMCG distribution advantageous
- Able to operate effectively in a fast-paced, operational environment
