An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced logistics professional to join a growing international freight forwarding operation as a Project Logistics Manager. This position would suit someone who enjoys working on challenging and varied movements rather than routine freight operations. You will be responsible for coordinating specialist and project cargo, working across multiple transport modes and managing each movement through to successful completion.
You will need to be comfortable working in a fast-moving environment where plans can change quickly and where strong decision-making, organisation and communication are essential.
The Working Environment
This is an office-based position, with the successful candidate expected to work from the office each day. Project logistics can involve changing priorities and situations that cannot always be predicted. The role therefore requires someone who is flexible and willing to provide additional support when a project demands it. Occasional overseas travel may also be required, depending on customer and project requirements.
Your Responsibilities
- Take full ownership of allocated logistics projects from planning through to completion.
- Develop practical transport plans based on customer requirements, cargo specifications and delivery deadlines.
- Coordinate complex shipments across road, ocean and air freight networks.
- Source and manage appropriate hauliers, carriers, agents and specialist suppliers.
- Request, assess and negotiate freight and transport costs.
- Coordinate loading, collection, transit and final delivery arrangements.
- Ensure all relevant commercial, shipping and customs documentation is completed accurately.
- Track shipments closely and provide customers with timely progress updates.
- Manage changes, delays and unexpected issues, putting alternative solutions in place where required.
- Monitor project costs against agreed budgets and identify potential additional charges.
- Maintain clear and accurate shipment records throughout each project.
- Build strong working relationships with customers, suppliers and overseas partners.
- Work closely with internal operational and commercial teams to ensure projects run smoothly.
- Review completed projects and identify opportunities to improve future processes and service levels.
Key requirements:
- Previous experience within project logistics, freight forwarding or a similar complex logistics environment.
- Strong knowledge of international transportation and supply chain processes.
- Experience coordinating multiple parties and suppliers.
- Good commercial awareness, including experience obtaining and negotiating rates.
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication.
- High attention to detail.
- Confident dealing directly with customers and suppliers.
