I am currently recruiting for a European Road Freight BDM to join an established Irish freight and logistics business with over 30 years of industry experience. This is a genuine business development opportunity for an experienced freight professional who understands the market, has the confidence to open doors, and can turn new opportunities into long-term, profitable customer relationships. You will have the operational and customer-service support of an established business behind you, allowing you to focus on what you do best - winning new business and growing revenue.

Responsibilities:

  • Generate new business opportunities across the Irish freight and logistics market
  • Identify and target potential customers across importing, exporting, manufacturing and distribution
  • Build and manage your own sales pipeline
  • Develop relationships with new and existing customers
  • Arrange and attend customer meetings
  • Understand customer requirements and provide commercially viable freight solutions
  • Negotiate rates and terms to secure profitable business
  • Work closely with the operations and customer-service teams to ensure a high level of service
  • Develop long-term customer relationships and maximise account potential
  • Follow the company's established and proven sales process and pipeline
  • Consistently achieve agreed revenue and margin targets

Requirements:

  • Proactively identify prospects, develop relationships, arrange meetings, negotiate commercial terms and convert opportunities into long-term accounts
  • Previous freight forwarding, logistics or transport sales experience
  • Strong knowledge of the Irish freight and logistics market
  • Proven experience generating and winning new business
  • Experience selling European road freight, customs or related logistics services
  • An established network of contacts across Irish importers, exporters, manufacturers or distributors
  • Strong communication, presentation and negotiation skills
  • A confident and proactive approach to business development
  • The ability to manage your own pipeline and sales activity
  • A strong commercial mindset with a focus on profitable business rather than simply volume

Experience selling European road freight into Ireland would be particularly advantageous, especially across markets including Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Italy, and Spain.

Benefits:

  • Hybrid working
  • Basic salary of circa €50,000, with flexibility up to approximately €60,000 for a particularly strong/senior candidate
  • 10% of GP generated from new business during year one
  • 5% of GP during year two
  • Commission is uncapped
  • Customers who have not traded with the business for 12 months will be treated as new business
  • Additional annual performance bonus structure to be introduced based on GP achievement
  • Company car, car allowance or commercial vehicle depending on the individual's preference/circumstances
  • Fuel/running costs as applicable
  • Pension contribution
