You will take ownership of a major, high-value category, shaping its commercial strategy, strengthening supplier partnerships and delivering sustainable growth across a diverse customer base. The role As Director of Trading, you will have full strategic and commercial responsibility for the Beers, Wines and Spirits category. You will lead the trading team while working closely with senior stakeholders across retail, operations, finance, marketing and supply chain. Key responsibilities will include: Developing and delivering the overall BWS trading strategy Taking ownership of category sales, margin, profitability and market share Leading major negotiations with national and international suppliers Building long-term, commercially valuable supplier partnerships Identifying new product, brand and revenue opportunities Creating compelling ranges, pricing strategies and promotional plans Using market, competitor and customer insight to guide commercial decisions Improving supplier income, commercial terms and promotional effectiveness Leading, developing and motivating a high-performing trading team Working with the executive leadership team to support wider business growth Ensuring the category remains competitive and responsive to changing consumer trends About you This opportunity would suit an established Trading Director, Commercial Director, Category Director or senior Head of Trading with substantial experience in Beers, Wines and Spirits. You will ideally demonstrate: Senior-level trading or commercial experience within BWS An excellent network across major drinks suppliers and brand owners A strong record of delivering profitable category growth Significant experience negotiating complex, high-value agreements Full commercial ownership of sales, margin and profitability The ability to develop and execute long-term trading strategies Strong leadership experience across sizeable commercial or category teams Excellent knowledge of the UK supermarket, grocery or convenience sectors The confidence and credibility to influence executive-level stakeholders A decisive, entrepreneurial and highly commercial leadership style Why consider this opportunity?
