An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and committed Transport Manager to join a well-established organisation based in Dartford. Reporting into senior management, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the transport operation, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient delivery activity across the business. As Transport Manager, you will play a pivotal role in the day-to-day management and strategic development of the transport function. This is a hands-on position that combines operational management with compliance oversight and team leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Transport Operations Leadership: Plan, organise and manage the transport function, including vehicle scheduling, routing and driver allocations to ensure efficient operations.
- Compliance & Safety: Maintain full compliance with transport legislation and regulatory requirements, including drivers' hours, tachograph rules, and Operator Licence standards.
- Fleet Management: Oversee vehicle maintenance programmes, servicing, MOTs and roadworthiness standards to ensure a safe and reliable fleet.
- Team Leadership: Supervise, coach and develop a team of drivers and administrative staff, ensuring high standards of performance and service delivery.
- Record Keeping & Reporting: Maintain accurate transport records, prepare operational reports and key performance indicators for senior leadership.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance productivity, reduce costs, improve compliance and streamline transport processes.
Person Specification
- Proven experience in a Transport Manager or similar operational leadership role.
- Excellent knowledge of UK transport legislation and compliance standards.
- Strong organisational, planning and communication skills.
- Confident leadership style with experience managing people and performance.
- Proficient user of transport management systems and Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel.
- A full UK driving licence is essential; CPC qualification (Transport Manager CPC) or similar is highly desirable.
