We are currently recruiting on behalf of a well-established and growing container haulage business for an experienced Depot Manager to lead their busy Purfleet operation. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially aware and operationally focused transport professional to join a respected business and play a key role in driving operational performance, service levels, and future growth.
The successful candidate will oversee the day-to-day running of the depot, managing transport operations, drivers, planners, and support staff while ensuring high levels of compliance and customer service are consistently maintained.
The Role:
As Depot Manager, you will take full operational responsibility for the depot, ensuring the transport operation runs efficiently, profitably, and in line with company and industry standards. You will lead from the front, supporting and developing the team while maintaining strong relationships with customers and key stakeholders. This role requires a hands-on manager with strong container haulage experience and the ability to perform effectively within a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the daily running of a busy container transport operation
- Manage and support planners, drivers, and office staff
- Ensure all deliveries and collections are completed efficiently and cost-effectively
- Maintain full compliance with driver hours, transport legislation, and vehicle maintenance requirements
- Monitor KPIs, operational performance, and profitability
- Drive operational improvements and efficiencies across the depot
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships
- Handle operational issues including delays, breakdowns, driver queries, and customer escalations
- Support business growth through strong operational and commercial management
