We are working on behalf of a well-established and growing specialist services organisation that is investing heavily in its infrastructure, fleet, and people. They are now looking to appoint an experienced Transport Operations Manager to take ownership of a mixed specialist fleet from a modern, purpose-built facility that includes state-of-the-art maintenance and recycling capabilities.

This is a senior, hands-on leadership role with genuine long-term progression and the opportunity to broaden your remit across wider operational areas as the business continues to expand.

The Role

As Transport Operations Manager, you will have full responsibility for the safe, compliant, and efficient running of a specialist transport operation. You will be a key driver of operational excellence, people development, and continuous improvement across transport and related services.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • End-to-end management of specialist vehicle operations (including sweeper, tanker, and waste-related services)
  • Holding Operator Licence responsibility and ensuring full compliance with DVSA, FORS, and transport legislation
  • Leading, motivating, and developing drivers and operational teams
  • Planning and managing specialist customer jobs, ensuring high standards of safety, quality, and service delivery
  • Ensuring compliance with Waste Carrier and related regulatory requirements
  • Improving vehicle utilisation, maintenance planning, and defect reporting processes
  • Monitoring and reporting on KPIs relating to safety, compliance, efficiency, and cost control
  • Partnering with senior leadership to support growth and service development
  • Identifying and implementing continuous improvement initiatives across operations

Essential Requirements

  • Transport Manager CPC (refreshed within the last 2 years)
  • Proven experience managing commercial transport operations and fleets
  • Strong knowledge of transport compliance and operator licence requirements
  • Confident, hands-on leader with strong people management skills
  • Highly organised, proactive, and commercially aware
  • Full UK driving licence

Highly Desirable

  • WAMITAB Level 4 (Medium Risk Operator Competence)
  • IOSH Managing Safely and/or NEBOSH
  • Experience with specialist vehicles (sweepers, tankers, plant), or within waste, drainage, construction, or related sectors
