Job Title: Assistant Customs Manager Location: Portsmouth Salary: £35,000 – £40,000 per annum Working Hours: Monday to Friday (approx 09:00-18:00) Company Overview: Join our clients dynamic team in the world of freight forwarding, final mile delivery, customs and warehousing. We are looking for an experienced and dedicated Assistant Customs Manager to ensure the smooth movement of goods across global borders while maintaining full compliance with customs regulations. Key Responsibilities: Oversee and manage the import and export process to ensure compliance with all customs regulations. Customs Clearance: Coordinate with customs brokers and freight forwarders to facilitate the efficient clearance of goods through customs. Overseeing team of 7. Act as the main point of contact for customs authorities and external partners. Provide training and support to internal teams on customs compliance requirements and procedures. Prepare and submit necessary documentation for imports/exports in line with relevant regulations. Stay up to date with changes in customs laws and regulations. Identify areas for improvement in customs operations and lead efforts to streamline processes. Standing in for Depot Manager at times. Occasional travel to Staines may be required.Required Qualifications & Skills: Proven experience in customs compliance, particularly within the importing and exporting sectors. Experience using CDS (desirable) Knowledge of customs software, such as – Descartes, Conex and Boxtop Strong understanding of international trade laws, customs regulations, and procedures. Excellent communication skills with the ability to train and support teams effectively. Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
