Reports To: Transport Operations Manager
Location: Liverpool
Salary: Up to 35,000 (Depending on Experience)
Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00 – 17:00
Job Summary
We are seeking a proactive and highly organised Transport Planner to join our dynamic and growing logistics team. The successful candidate will have solid experience working in a transport office environment, with a strong understanding of driver\’s hours, Working Time Directive (WTD), and container work. Knowledge of European operations, general haulage, and backloading processes will be advantageous.
This role plays a critical part in maintaining the efficiency and compliance of our daily transport activities, while contributing to the overall performance of the logistics function.
Key Responsibilities
- Transport Operations: Support the day-to-day management of the transport office, ensuring smooth and efficient logistics operations.
- Compliance: Monitor and enforce compliance with driver\’s hours and WTD regulations.
- Container Logistics: Plan and manage container work to meet customer delivery timelines and optimise costs.
- European Transport (Desirable): Assist in the coordination of European freight movements, ensuring adherence to cross-border regulations.
- General Haulage: Oversee general haulage activities, ensuring optimal fleet utilisation and legal compliance.
- Backloading: Identify and implement backload opportunities to improve route efficiency and reduce costs.
- Customer Service: Act as a point of contact for drivers and clients, handling transport-related queries professionally and efficiently.
- Reporting: Maintain accurate records of routes, vehicle usage, driver hours, and backloads.
- Health & Safety: Ensure all transport activities meet internal safety standards and legal health & safety requirements.
Key Skills & Experience
- Transport Office Experience: Previous experience in a busy transport or logistics environment is essential.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of WTD, driver\’s hours regulations, and general compliance practices.
- Container Work: Proven experience in planning and executing container transport.
- European Operations: Knowledge of international logistics and compliance (desirable but not essential).
- Haulage & Backloading: Sound knowledge of UK general haulage and practical experience managing backloads.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to liaise confidently with all stakeholders.
- Problem Solving: Strong decision-making and critical thinking abilities under pressure.
- IT Proficiency: Comfortable using transport management systems (TMS) and Microsoft Office tools.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in a transport office setting is essential.
- Familiarity with transport laws and industry regulations.
- A CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) qualification is desirable but not essential.
