Mechanical Fitter
Bognor Regis, West Sussex | Permanent
39-hour week (Monday-Thursday 7:30am-4:30pm, Friday 7:30am-12:30pm) | £19.50/hour
I'm recruiting on behalf of a well-established UK machine builder specialising in the design and manufacture of bespoke automation and special purpose machinery supplied to customers worldwide. Due to continued growth, they are looking to add an experienced Mechanical Fitter to their engineering team.
The Role
This is a hands-on, workshop-based position focused on the mechanical build of custom-built machinery, from sub-assembly through to final build and test.
Key responsibilities include:
- Mechanical assembly of special purpose machinery from engineering drawings
- Building frames, guards, rollers, shafts, bearings and mechanical assemblies
- Setting and aligning components to specification
- Basic pneumatic fitting (cylinders, valves, pipework - training available)
- Supporting machine build, testing and fault-finding in-house
- Occasional assistance with installations (UK / overseas - infrequent)
The Ideal Candidate
- Proven experience in a manufacturing environment as a Mechanical Fitter or a similar role
- Confident reading and interpreting mechanical drawings
- Practical, methodical approach with strong attention to detail
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a small engineering team
- Apprenticeship or formal mechanical training advantageous
