An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Buildings Technician to join a busy facility and building services team supporting a specialist technical environment. This is a varied, hands-on role combining facilities maintenance, building services, technical support, contractor coordination, and project work. You'll play a key role in ensuring buildings, equipment, and essential services are maintained safely and efficiently while supporting the day-to-day operation of the site.
Responsibilities include:
- Carry out planned and reactive maintenance across buildings and facilities.
- Maintain and repair building fabric including basic plumbing, carpentry, decorating, and general repairs.
- Support refurbishment, fit-out, and improvement projects.
- Install, modify, and relocate furniture, equipment, and building services.
- Assist with mechanical systems including compressed air, gas, water, ventilation, extraction, and vacuum systems.
- Support the installation, maintenance, and relocation of specialist equipment.
- Monitor and coordinate contractors, ensuring work is completed safely and to a high standard.
- Support fire safety, security systems, and emergency response procedures.
- Maintain maintenance records, compliance documentation, and stock levels.
- Assist with waste management and environmental compliance activities.
- Act as a senior member of the facilities team and provide support to colleagues as required.
Skills & experience:
- NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, HNC/HND, or equivalent trade qualification.
- Previous experience within facilities maintenance, building services, estates, engineering, or a similar environment.
- Experience carrying out maintenance, fault finding, and repair work.
- Good understanding of health and safety regulations.
- Experience using hand and power tools.
- Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office.
- Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
Desirable:
- Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) or PAT testing software.
- Experience working with compressed air, gas, vacuum, water, or cryogenic systems.
- Previous contractor or team supervision experience.
- First Aid at Work qualification.
- Experience working in a laboratory, technical, scientific, manufacturing, or engineering environment.
