We are currently recruiting for an experienced CNC Operator Machinist to join an established and growing precision engineering business based in Sturminster Newton. The company specialises in the manufacture of high-precision components, working from prototypes and short batches through to larger volume production. The machining facility includes modern CNC turning and milling equipment, twin-spindle and multi-axis machinery.
Responsibilities include:
- Operating CNC turning and/or milling machinery.
- Setting and operating machines to produce precision components.
- Loading and unloading components and monitoring production.
- Selecting and changing tooling where required.
- Carrying out in-process inspection and quality checks.
- Reading and working from engineering drawings.
- Using a range of measuring equipment to ensure components meet specification.
- Making minor offsets and adjustments to maintain component quality.
- Working with a variety of materials including stainless steel, aluminium, brass, copper, titanium and other specialist alloys.
- Maintaining a clean, safe and organised working environment.
- Working closely with the wider engineering team to achieve production and quality targets.
- Supporting both short-batch and volume production requirements.
Skills and experience:
- Previous experience operating CNC machinery within a precision engineering environment.
- Experience with CNC turning and/or milling.
- The ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
- Good knowledge of cutting tools and machining processes.
- Experience using inspection and measuring equipment.
- A good understanding of engineering tolerances and quality requirements.
- A reliable and methodical approach to your work.
- The ability to work independently as well as part of a small team.
Candidates who have experience with Mazak, Miyano, Takisawa or Haas machinery would be particularly relevant, although experience with other CNC controls and machine tools will also be considered.
