We are seeking an experienced Senior Underwriter, Casualty Treaty to play a key role in delivering the Casualty Treaty business plan. This is a high-impact position offering significant involvement in underwriting strategy, portfolio development, broker engagement and team mentoring. Reporting to the Head of Casualty Treaty, you will underwrite business within agreed authority, support the development of the portfolio, and act as a senior technical presence within the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Underwrite casualty treaty business in line with underwriting guidelines, processes and delegated authority.
  • Support the Head of Department in business planning, budget activity and portfolio strategy.
  • Promote and develop client and broker relationships through meetings, travel and marketing activity.
  • Assess emerging risks, market developments and underwriting issues, and recommend appropriate actions.
  • Ensure robust technical evaluation of exposures in collaboration with Actuarial.
  • Support pricing tool development and ensure correct and consistent usage.
  • Ensure all underwriting decisions, peer reviews and records are fully documented and compliant.

Performance, Analytics & Governance

  • Contribute to quarterly post-mortem reviews, providing analysis on new business, declined risks and market conditions.
  • Support retrocession purchase analysis where required.
  • Maintain underwriting discipline and ensure adherence to governance frameworks.

Aggregate & Exposure Management

  • Assist in the development and ongoing maintenance of casualty aggregate monitoring processes and controls.
  • Work with Actuarial to develop realistic disaster and aggregation scenarios.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Mentor and support junior members of the Casualty Treaty team.
  • Contribute to training, research projects and broader team development initiatives.
  • Escalate relevant team and portfolio issues to senior leadership as appropriate.

Qualifications Skills, Knowledge & Experience

  • Strong, demonstrable experience in Casualty Treaty Reinsurance underwriting.
  • Excellent knowledge of the reinsurance market and underwriting processes.
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen.
  • Highly analytical, numerate and detail-focused.
  • Confident communicator with strong written and verbal skills.
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Capable of working independently while promoting a collaborative, collegiate culture.
  • Degree educated (preferred but not essential).
