What does a Senior Creative Technologist do at WPP Production?
A Senior Creative Technologist is a confident technical and creative leader who delivers exceptional work and elevates the team around them with +10 years of experience. The candidate should have strong understanding of the creative and production industry, ultimately worked within a creative agency (or in-house agency) or a production company for a vast majority of their career. They can shape ideas, briefs and expand on concepts, not only execute them. They don’t just build prototypes; they think about how things can scale. They don’t just solve problems; they spot them early and think about mitigating risk. They are comfortable working with clients and have strong presentation skills.
The Senior CT plays a supporting leadership role across strategic and creative delivery, mentoring and standards. Senior CTs own workstreams, line manage junior team members and help ensure that what we ship is technically robust, creatively ambitious and compliant with corporate and client expectations. The Senior CT has strong technical capabilities to guide teams about the suitable models they should work with for each project and provide technical support for the different models, programs and tools.
Responsibilities
- Line manages Creative Technologists
- Set clear expectations and support personal development plans
- Run regular, 1:1 with honest feedback loops
- Actively mentor less confident team members, creating space for them to grow
- Confidently propose and justify technical approaches in response to briefs
- Take responsibility for ensuring creative and technical output meets corporate and client standards
- Work closely with Producers/PMs to scope realistically and protect quality
- Turn ideas into meaningful prototypes that support internal new business
- Balance experimentation with integrated production discipline
- Anticipate technical risks and resolve issues early
- Develop scalable workflows across AI, real-time and other emerging tech
- Encourage ownership and pride in output
- Share knowledge openly and raise the overall capability of the team
- Escalate when something doesn’t match the brief or standards
- Be the bridge between Creative, Strategy, Production and Tech
- Clearly explain complex technical approaches to non-technical audiences
- Represent the Creative Technology team confidently in client settings
- Provide transparent updates on progress, blockers and risks
- Give constructive, solution-focused feedback
- Proactively identify opportunities to prototype new ideas or tools
- Contribute to group R&D initiatives
- Stay curious about emerging tech and share insights with the team
Requirements
- Strong capability across multiple areas such as: Unreal (Blueprints, UEFN, Verse), creative coding, generative AI workflows, AR/VR, 3D, interaction design, worldbuilding, automation pipelines etc.
- Proven ability to deliver high-quality technical work with minimal oversight
- Experience mentoring or line managing junior team members
- Strong troubleshooting skills across technical/creative pipelines
- Confident communicator both internally and with clients.
- Comfortable working in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments
- High standards and a strong sense of accountability
- Great collaborator and team player that is used to working with multiple stakeholders co-owning a project
- Commercial awareness and understanding of production realities
