This role is within the Data, Tech, and Analytics (DTA) team, within the Global Client Solutions organisation. The Global Client Solutions (GCS) team is responsible for all global clients within WPP. DTA is responsible for servicing clients with best-in-class data solutions, data strategy, analytics, technology and AI solutions to drive client growth. Who We Are Looking For
As a Director, Data Strategy within the Global Client Data Strategy team, you will be a skilled data strategist embedded within one of WPP Media's largest global client teams – JLR. Reporting into the Data Tech and Analytics Lead on JLR, you will play a central role in developing and executing data strategies that translate WPP's capabilities into measurable client outcomes at a global scale. You will bring deep technical and strategic expertise, leading the day-to-day delivery of data strategy workstreams while building strong relationships with senior client stakeholders. You will contribute to the evolution of WPP's data and technology offering, support commercial growth, and help develop junior team members ‑ operating as a key pillar of the global client data strategy practice.
What You'll Do
- Strategic Data Application: Drive the development and implementation of data strategies for global clients, leveraging WPP's, partners', and clients' data assets, products, technologies, and expert services (including insights, analytics, measurement, and data partnerships). Design data-driven solutions, translating complex capabilities into tangible business value, and ensuring data strategies are crafted to unlock growth opportunities and competitive advantage for our clients.
- Global Data & Tech Strategy & Roadmap Development: Contribute to the development and execution of global data and technology transformation roadmaps aligned to client business outcomes. Define audience-first strategies using 1PD, 2PD, and 3PD data, build learning agendas, conduct data maturity assessments, and address data gaps for enrichment.
- Client & Stakeholder Engagement: Build trusted relationships with senior client marketing and data leads, acting as a knowledgeable and credible day-to-day strategic partner. Translate business objectives into innovative data strategies, provide expert consultation on the media ecosystem, and educate clients on data strategy and platform utilisation.
- Platform & Technology Innovation & Calibration: Drive the design, customization of WPP's proprietary data and technology solutions across global clients including WPP OPEN, Open Intelligence, Infosum, and 3rd party applications. This involves pioneering new use cases, calibrating existing tools with the relevant data, customizing technology, working with our consulting team in overseeing ad and mar‑tech platform integration and new partnerships. You will also work with our product enablement and deployment functions to manage the deployment WPP Open on global clients.
- Team Leadership & Development: Lead and mentor a DS Manager, fostering a culture of excellence, curiosity, and continuous learning. Oversee the quality and consistency of work delivered across your team.
- Cross‑Functional Collaboration & Orchestration: Act as a connector across global, regional, and local teams ‑ working closely with media, analytics, technology, and commercial functions to bring together WPP’s comprehensive data and technology offerings to deliver intelligent growth for clients.
- Commercial & Growth Leadership: Drive revenue growth and client satisfaction by partnering with commercial teams on pricing and proposals for complex data solutions. This includes leading data & tech solutions for existing clients and occasionally leading new business pitches, demonstration value, and ensuring solution adoption to identify additional functionalities.
- Thought Leadership & Expertise: Contribute to WPP's position as an industry leader in data-driven marketing. Maintain deep expertise in WPP's data products and platforms, stay current with adtech, martech, and data trends, and bring that perspective proactively to clients and internal teams.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Proven Leadership Experience: A demonstrable track record of leading and developing clients or talent within an agency, adtech, or closely related environment, with experience managing and growing Associate Director-level and below.
- Industry Experience: We are looking for someone with 10 years+ experience in data related roles.
- Global Client Experience: Experience contributing to or deploying data strategies for large multinational or multi-market brands, with an understanding of how global strategies are adapted for regional and local markets.
- Strong Data Strategy Expertise: Demonstrated expertise in applying data capabilities and technology within the media ecosystem, including audience strategy development, 1PD activation, and measurement frameworks.
- Technical Proficiency: A strong understanding of the adtech/martech landscape, including Data Clean Rooms, DSPs, CDPs, analytics, and AI tools. Able to evaluate data partnerships and consult on strategic application of complex data solutions.
- Client Partnership Skills: Ability to build credible, trusted relationships with senior client-side data and technology stakeholders, acting as a knowledgeable peer and strategic counsel.
- Business Acumen: A history of driving revenue and achieving high levels of client satisfaction through strategic decision-making.
- Change Management: Ability to guide clients and internal stakeholders through the adoption of new technologies and data-driven approaches.
- Strong Communication Skills: Ability to articulate complex data strategies and technological concepts clearly and confidently to senior client and agency stakeholders.
- Analytical Prowess: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with working knowledge of advanced measurement tools including MMM, MTA, Sales Lift, and Brand Studies.
