What does an Asset Solutions Director do at WPP Production?

Reporting to the Production Operations Director (UK POD), the Asset Solutions Director (POD) plays a crucial role in managing and optimising asset workflows, ensuring efficient delivery and maintaining high standards. They provide expertise on asset management, defining and championing best practices, metadata standards, content hierarchies, and functional requirements. This role drives improvement of operational processes through technology and championing a solutions‑focused culture.

The Asset Solutions Director will be responsible for a team of 8+ resources based in the UK and India servicing a large global automotive client. The team is divided into two interlinked towers, with one team focused on central production assets and the other focused on the management of high volumes of marketing assets, supporting local market clients and agency teams, also undertaking user management across the client DAM and other tools.

Close alignment with the Production Operations Director will be critical to ensure that production workflows are making asset handovers seamless. When post‑production is complete the asset lifecycle management should become an operational control to allow production teams to move onto other projects. The Asset Solutions Director will take this responsibility with a proactive approach and support the team in delivering this acting as the primary technical expert who can articulate complex systems and solutions in an understandable way to non‑technical leadership and teams, enabling effective decision‑making and support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and provide guidance to a team of Asset Managers, Rights Managers, and the Librarian Team Lead, handling escalations, triaging queries, and managing cover.
  • Manage and optimise asset workflows, ensuring efficient delivery and high standards across the UK production operation.
  • Oversee the secure, end‑to‑end asset ingestion process, from production to final delivery.
  • Develop, enforce, and champion asset metadata strategies, content organisation standards, and retention policies aligned with industry best practices and client compliance needs.
  • Provide strategic support and advice on inter‑team and global communications and processes for asset management, ensuring technical concepts are clearly understood by all stakeholders.
  • Act as a key liaison between internal teams (Engineering, IT, Production, MCR), clients, and external vendors to align on asset management goals effectively translating technical requirements and solutions for diverse audiences.
  • Contribute metric data for client reporting and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on enterprise‑wide projects, offering deep architectural and operational expertise on asset management systems and best practices.
  • Collaborate with the UK Head of Post Production and Project Managers to plan appropriate workflows for moving image post‑production.
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to data security, copyright infringement and asset mismanagement.
  • Design and implement tailored asset management solutions for specific client requirements.
  • Assist the Production Operations team in establishing workflows, creative standards, and technical guidelines for post‑production.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in data handling and comprehensive asset management, ideally with a background in system architecture or lead librarian roles.
  • In‑depth knowledge of post‑production workflows, particularly for moving image content.
  • Proven track record of managing a team of at least 3 individuals.
  • Strong ability to monitor workflows and processes, identifying opportunities for system enhancements.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with a demonstrated ability to translate complex technical concepts and solutions into clear, concise, and actionable information for non‑technical stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Stay informed on advancements in asset management tools, AI‑driven metadata tagging, and digital rights management, recommending relevant integrations and forward‑thinking strategies.
  • Excellent administrative skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent MS Office skills, particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
