What does an Executive Creative Director do at WPP Production?

We are seeking an exceptional Executive Creative Director to lead creative excellence across our UK Post Production operation, focused on VFX, Motion Design, CGI and AI origination. This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of high-end craft within WPP Production, working closely with Gramercy Park Studios, our boutique post production operation, as well as the wider UK studio network and agency teams. This is a senior creative leadership role for someone with the instincts of a filmmaker, the standards of a world-class post and VFX studio leader, and the vision to harness emerging technologies without compromising craft. You will help define the creative ambition, visual quality and innovation agenda for complex content, brand storytelling and design-led production across channels and platforms.

The ideal candidate will bring deep experience from leading post production, visual effects or moving image environments - someone equally comfortable shaping the creative vision, reviewing work at the finest level of detail, advising clients and agency partners, mentoring specialist talent, and building modern workflows that integrate CGI, virtual production and AI-enabled origination. You will be a visible creative leader across the business: elevating the standard of work, inspiring multidisciplinary teams, helping win new opportunities, and ensuring that WPP Production in the UK is recognised for exceptional craft, progressive thinking and truly distinctive output.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and lead the creative vision for high-value production and post production work across the UK business, with a particular emphasis on VFX, CGI, design, finishing and AI origination.
  • Set the benchmark for visual quality, storytelling, innovation and craft across projects, outputs and client partnerships.
  • Provide senior creative oversight from brief through to final delivery, ensuring the work is ambitious, culturally relevant, technically excellent and commercially effective.
  • Champion best-in-class creative standards inspired by the world’s leading post and VFX environments, while tailoring those standards to the needs of modern brand content systems.
  • Ensure AI-enabled workflows are implemented with strong creative judgment, technical fluency, brand suitability and appropriate governance.
  • Drive new thinking around image-making, digital world-building, synthetic production, virtual workflows and scalable content creation.
  • Act as a senior creative partner to internal stakeholders, agency teams and clients, helping shape briefs, unlock ambition and steer complex projects toward outstanding outcomes.
  • Present work with authority and clarity, building confidence with senior clients and collaborators.
  • Translate brand, business and audience needs into elevated visual ideas and executable production solutions.
  • Act as an external and internal ambassador for WPP Production’s craft expertise, contributing to industry visibility, thought leadership and reputation building.
  • Foster a culture that values curiosity, experimentation, generosity, collaboration and uncompromising craft.
  • Help identify and attract exceptional talent across post production, VFX, CGI and AI-enabled creative disciplines.
  • Develop clear creative review processes and feedback standards that help teams produce their best work.

Qualifications

  • Significant senior creative leadership experience within a leading post production, VFX, CGI, design, moving image or integrated production environment.
  • A strong and credible body of work demonstrating excellence in visual storytelling, post production craft, VFX, CGI and innovation-led production.
  • Deep knowledge of the end-to-end post production process, including editorial, grading, finishing, motion design, compositing, CG pipelines and delivery.
  • Strong understanding of current and emerging AI tools and their practical application in professional creative production.
  • Proven ability to elevate specialist craft across complex, high-profile projects.
  • Experience working with senior clients, creative agencies, strategists, producers and cross-functional stakeholders in fast-paced environments.
  • Exceptional creative judgment, with the ability to combine conceptual ambition with technical realism and delivery excellence.
  • Strong commercial instincts and an ability to contribute to business development, client growth and creative differentiation.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with confidence in articulating ideas, giving direction and influencing at senior levels.
  • A highly collaborative leadership style, with the presence and credibility to operate across boutique studio teams and scaled production networks.

Desirable

  • Experience in virtual production, real-time workflows or immersive content environments.
  • Recognition through industry awards or a strong profile within the post/VFX/CGI community.
  • Experience building or evolving creative departments, studio offers or innovation practices.
  • Understanding of how global content systems are created and adapted across multiple channels, formats and markets.
