Wavemaker UK is looking for an ambitious Research and Insight Manager to join our team and share our insight ambition.

Immerse yourself in bespoke client research projects, from insight that guides strategic thought to evaluation of campaigns.

This role is varied and is crucial for the agency to create audience insight that leads to maximum engagement and attention resulting in award winning work.

In this role, you will

  • Take responsibility of the delivery of research and insight projects from beginning to end for a wide range of clients, ranging from entertainment to finance, FMCG to government, and more.
  • Take ownership of a variety of research processes and outputs (with support from a Director or Lead) spanning:
  • Research proposal writing and the implementation of projects.
  • Production of research materials such as questionnaires and discussion guides for clients and working with all stakeholders to ensure these are relevant and useful.
  • Liaising with key stakeholders throughout the research (such as suppliers and internal teams at Wavemaker).
  • Analysis of data sets, drawing out the story and useful conclusions from the insight, then presenting these conclusions in the most appropriate manner.
  • Presenting insights back to clients and agency teams in a clear manner.
  • Provide research and insight support on new business pitches to discover and create impactful insights that contribute to agency success.
  • Be an agency champion of audience, planning and insight tools (internal and external), including TGI, You Gov Profiles, You Gov Brand Index, social listening tools, WM Momentum etc.
  • Be an active member of relevant industry bodies (e. g., Media Research Group), and attend their training and events where applicable, as well as attending other wider industry events.
  • Apply a commercial mindset to research projects, including working to client budgets, identifying suppliers that are well placed to support projects commercially, and ensuring invoicing procedure is followed for timely and accurate payment.

Skills and Experience

In this role, you will have – or will develop – skills spanning

  • Research, insight, and audience knowledge
  • Utilises understanding of research and insight tools and methodologies (both quantitative and qualitative) to suggest approaches and draw conclusions.
  • Serves as an expert on how tools and methods are applied to meet a client’s or team’s needs, and can recommend an approach.
  • Confidently and independently answering research questions and respond to ad-hoc requests.
  • Produces research materials such as questionnaires/discussion guides for clients and takes ownership of collating and implementing feedback from all stakeholders to ensure they are relevant and useful.
  • An analytical mindset, identifying the story behind data and drawing useful conclusions that are presented back in our outputs in a clear and appropriate manner.
  • Effectively guides junior team members on technicalities of the tools and research methods.
  • Remains aware of practice and industry changes, challenges and findings.
  • Client, stakeholder, and supplier relationships
  • A strong understanding of how the agency operates and works with their clients.
  • Being a key contact for clients and internal colleagues and building relationships with these people – going beyond being a data provider to a trusted advisor who can help answer the key client business questions.
  • Acting as a key research and insight contact for the agency, addressing queries internally, and educating agency colleagues on the Audience Science Product suite and offer.
  • Strong knowledge about a wide range of suppliers and their offerings to best identify solutions for clients and introduces new suppliers to the team.
  • Project management
  • Creating project plans that assess the relative importance of tasks and following best practice principles to deliver on time across the briefing and proposal stage, project set-up, reporting etc.).
  • Ability to work across several projects, prioritising tasks across these and within these, and delivering on time.
  • Ability to effectively delegate tasks on research projects to junior team members, taking accountability for these being delivered on time and to a high standard.
  • Effective communication
  • Excellent written, oral and electronic communication skills.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Power Point, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Takes ownership in creating both routine and bespoke communication materials to the agency and to clients (such as proposals, reports, debriefs, internal agency team introductions etc.).
  • Designs differentiated communications (content focus, style, presentation, etc.) for various internal and external audiences based on an understanding of their differing levels of familiarity.
  • Commercial acumen
  • Exceptional finance management, including accurately setting up new suppliers and assisting with suppliers’ contracts and scopes, following protocols on setting up new projects and the invoicing of these projects.
  • Costing a project and a realistic prediction of how long each workstream/task will take on a project.
  • Demonstrates understanding of the financial impact on decisions to drive projects that support the team’s targets.
