WPP Media’s Analytics team houses all of the analytics, effectiveness and insight specialists within WPP Media. The team has one purpose – to ensure that every media planning decision is fuelled by the best data and insights available. Our Analytics team is crucial for our client’s success by delivering a data-driven approach to media strategy, planning and activation with an emphasis on accountability and experimentation.

An integral part of our Analytics team is our Modelling Solutions team. The team’s areas of expertise span marketing mix modelling, budget setting and allocation, forecasting, brand equity modelling, launch volumetric studies and conjoint to name but a few. Our primary focus is on getting insight out of data and analytics in order to provide recommendations for clients that are impactful and actionable.

Our UK unit is a team of 60+ analysts, working across more than 25 clients in the UK and globally. We analyse over £600m of communications spend each year, covering 15% of UK media spend which means we are the leading experts in our field. The Modelling Services team covers all areas of a project from data collection and processing to technical modelling and client delivery.

Role Summary and Impact

Project Leads are key members of the Modelling Services team, responsible for the day to day running of projects and providing support for junior staff and direct reports. You are responsible for ensuring the requirements for each project are correctly scoped, models are statistically robust but intuitive and required outputs are delivered. It requires a combination of technical modelling rigour, leadership, communication skills and media expertise.

Measures of success

  • In three months, you would have been fully immersed in the team’s analytics approaches; developed a good working relationship with your team and clients.
  • In six months, you would have led to completion your first client modelling project, with support from junior team members; developed a strong and trusted relationship with your stakeholders.
  • In 12 months, you would have delivered a variety of client MMM projects and taken on increasing ownership of the modelling approaches and direction of your projects.

Responsibilities of the role

  • Ensure all modelling aspects of a project are statistically robust, intuitive and delivered on time to support timely delivery of the overall client project.
  • Oversee and ensure modelling best practice within the team.
  • Understand marketing strategy and business issues across clients.
  • Ensure internal teams are fully aware and trained on our ways of working.
  • Show ability to identify and deal with client issues before they get out of hand, from a modelling perspective.
  • Take responsibility for the development of junior team members, with support of Director/Account Lead.
  • Ability to delegate up and down, co-ordinating between groups and disciplines.
  • Forge strong stakeholder relationships.
  • Identify and suggest ways to grow income.
  • Be aware of project profitability.

Skills and Experience

Solid hands-on experience in Market Mix Modelling, with rich and complete data sets. Degree or degree-level understanding of Economics, Maths, Stats, Sciences or another numerical subject. Experience managing modelling projects for time series econometrics in the media or marketing industry – strong Market Mix Modelling technical understanding and experience is required. Detailed media and marketing knowledge. The ability to convert modelling outputs into real-world actionable insights and solutions. Strong team building skills, with the ability to explain complex processes clearly. Experience managing a team of analysts or econometricians. Excellent knowledge of common modelling packages, Excel, PowerPoint, R or other programming language. Experience of modelling projects across a range of sectors.
