W&P Partners Legal Recruitment is proud to partner with a high-growth, internationally focused fintech organisation on the appointment of a Senior Legal Counsel – Payments, based in London. This is a unique opportunity to join a scaling business operating at the forefront of global payments infrastructure, supporting expansion across multiple jurisdictions and helping to shape the legal and regulatory framework underpinning its growth.
Role Overview: You will join a dynamic and commercially driven legal and regulatory function, working at the heart of the business’s international expansion. This role offers a broad and strategic remit across payments, regulatory, and licensing matters, with significant exposure to senior stakeholders and cross-border projects. In this role, you will advise on a wide range of legal and regulatory matters including:
- Payments and financial services regulation
- Regulatory licensing and authorisations across multiple jurisdictions
- Structuring and expansion into new international markets
- Regulatory strategy and risk management
- Engagement with regulators and external counsel
- Development of internal legal and regulatory frameworks
You will work closely with teams across Legal, Compliance, Risk, and Operations, playing a key role in delivering coordinated, scalable solutions to support business growth. The role also offers the opportunity to help build internal processes, frameworks, and best practices as the organisation continues to expand.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Qualified lawyer with 5+ PQE gained in private practice and/or in-house within financial services or fintech
- Strong experience in payments regulation, financial services law, or related regulatory frameworks
- Experience supporting or leading regulatory licensing or authorisation processes
- Exposure to multi-jurisdictional regulatory projects or cross-border expansion
- Commercially minded with the ability to balance legal risk and business objectives
- Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to work cross-functionally
- A proactive, solution-oriented mindset suited to a fast-paced environment
- Experience in building or improving legal/regulatory processes and frameworks is highly desirable
