Duration:

Up to 300 hours (approx. 12 weeks, part-time 2–3 days per week)

The Business:

Woven Bio is a sustainable materials company developing high-performance bio-composite packaging designed to replace expanded polystyrene (EPS). Using natural fibres and bio-based binders, the company produces lightweight, protective packaging solutions that deliver equivalent performance to EPS while significantly reducing environmental impact.

Woven Bio combines advanced composite engineering with scalable manufacturing to help manufacturers transition away from fossil-based packaging.

What you’ll be doing:

The intern will play a key role in supporting Woven Bio’s transition to a digitally enabled manufacturing operation. Tasks will combine engineering, data analysis, and digital systems development.

Core Responsibilities Include:

  • Map manufacturing processes and identify digitalisation opportunities
  • Build dashboards using tools such as Excel, Power BI or Python
  • Analyse production data to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks and waste
  • Support CAD design of tooling, fixtures, and manufacturing equipment
  • Assist with optimisation of moulding and pressing processes
  • Evaluate sensor technologies, IoT systems and machine monitoring solutions

About you:

We are looking for a motivated, analytically minded student or recent graduate who combines technical capability with strong communication skills and a genuine interest in manufacturing environments.

You should be able to demonstrate:

  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes
  • Experience with CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks, Fusion 360)
  • Ability to analyse data (Excel, Power BI, Python or similar)
  • Strong problem‑solving and analytical thinking
  • Ability to work independently and manage tasksKnowledge of automation, robotics, or IoT
  • Experience with data visualisation or dashboards
  • Understanding of Industry 4.0 concepts
  • Interest in sustainable materials or manufacturing
  • Experience with process improvement methodologies

Relevant degree disciplines may include Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Product Design Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Data Science / Computer Science or similar. However, we welcome applications from students who can demonstrate the relevant skills regardless of discipline.
