Overview
As a Service Delivery Manager at FCC Environment, you will ensure the safe, efficient and high-quality operation of our Transfer Station and Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) sites within the Mid & East Kent contract. You will be responsible for the day-to-day running of multiple sites, leading teams, hitting health, safety, environmental and customer service standards, and maximising reuse and recycling performance while working within budget. This is a full-time position that includes weekend cover on a rota basis.

What will you be doing?
- Lead safety and environmental compliance: Own SHEQ on site(s); complete risk assessments and aspects/impacts analyses; ensure procedures, permits and statutory notices are in place; investigate incidents and drive corrective actions.
- Deliver the contract: Monitor service standards and take prompt action to resolve capacity, housekeeping, and customer service issues; set targets that drive continuous improvement, especially for recycling and customer satisfaction.
- Raise reuse & recycling performance: Identify new reuse/recycling opportunities; promote facilities; publicise site achievements.
- Own data and reporting: Coordinate accurate data capture and timely reporting to support payments and KPI tracking; contribute to ISO 9001/14001/45001/50001 compliance and complaint resolution.
- Lead people and culture: Recruit, induct, train and manage Team Leaders and Operatives (including agency/relief); ensure competence against FCC H&S requirements; build a strong, customer-focused team.
- Run efficient operations: Work with Transport and other internal teams to ensure effective supervision across all operational hours (including weekends and bank holidays); operate within the cost budget and seek efficiency savings.
- Engage stakeholders: Build relationships with the client and partners; work closely with internal colleagues (Commercial, Plant, Materials, Estates, Engineering, HR, H&S, Finance and Doncaster support services).
What are we looking for?
- Industry background: Experience in the waste sector (or similar service delivery environment) and multi-site operations.
- People leadership: Proven management of remote teams; able to recruit, train, motivate and hold people to high standards.
- SHEQ mindset: Strong track record in H&S and environmental compliance; able to complete risk assessments and implement safe systems of work.
- Operational nous: Knowledge of Transfer Station, HWRC/recycling sites and transport operations; comfortable with rota/weekend cover.
- Data confidence: Competent with Microsoft Office (especially Excel and Word); accurate reporting and KPI ownership.
- Qualifications/competence: Completion of relevant competency modules and Certificate of Technical Competence (CMS) (or willingness to achieve); ongoing training per the FCC training matrix.
- Personal attributes: Customer focused, resilient, organised and numerate; a team player who can also work on their own initiative; professional ambassador for FCC and the client.
- Other requirements: Full UK driving licence; flexible to provide weekend cover on a rota basis.
