Operations Manager
Salary £40,662 – £50,828 per annum (plus benefits)
Hours Full-time, Monday to Friday
Location Deerplay Landfill Site, Burnley, BB11 3RL
As an Operations Manager at FCC Environment, you will oversee the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the Deerplay landfill site, managing its transition from mothballed to fully operational. Youll be responsible for health and safety, environmental compliance, cost control, and delivering high-quality service to customers.
This vacancy is for a full-time position, working five days per week.

What will you be doing?
- Overseeing the reopening and daily management of the Deerplay landfill site
- Ensuring compliance with health & safety, environmental, and statutory requirements
- Managing site operations efficiently and within budget
- Leading and developing site teams including plant operators, weighbridge staff, and contractors
- Monitoring cell development, leachate systems, and waste handling
- Maintaining high site standards and engaging with the local community and the Environment Agency
- Assisting in financial forecasting, reporting, and cost control
- Supporting succession planning, performance reviews, and training
What are we looking for?
- Strong leadership qualities with proven team management experience
- Health & Safety qualifications or the ability to work toward them
- Previous experience in landfill or waste site operations is desirable
- Strong commercial acumen and ability to work to budget
- Resilience, adaptability, and a results-driven approach
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Certificate of Technical Competence (COTC) or willingness to achieve it
- IT literate with experience using management systems and reporting tools
