Operational Team – Loader (Apprentice Urban Driver – HGV)

As a Loader (Apprentice Urban Driver) at FCC Environment, you will support the delivery of household waste and recycling services while working towards a nationally recognised Level 2 Urban Driver Apprenticeship. You’ll receive structured off‑the‑job training alongside your daily duties to help develop your knowledge, skills, and behaviours to operate safely and effectively in a driving role.
Once you have completed your apprenticeship, and in your role as Operational Team Loader, you will have opportunities to provide HGV driver cover for your team and, of course, be considered first for any full‑time driver opportunities as they arise. Entry onto the Urban Driver Level 2 Apprenticeship is subject to demonstrating a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and reliable performance in your role as an Operational Team – Loader.

What will you be doing?
- Collecting various waste streams (including food, glass, plastic, cans, paper and card) from MMW/garden waste/clinical/litterbins/bulky collections
- Loading recycling and waste into collection vehicles
- Participating in the Level 2 Urban Driver Apprenticeship, including 20% off‑the‑job learning (e.g., theory sessions, e‑learning, workshops)
- Attending all scheduled apprenticeship sessions and assessments
- Demonstrating safe working practices and high standards of health and safetyMaintaining cleanliness and supporting depot operations when required
- Developing the skills and knowledge to eventually drive up to a 26‑tonne vehicle (subject to business needs and role availability)
- Always following company policies and procedures
