Salary: £34,520 – £43,151 per annum.

Hours: 40 hours per week, 8:00am to 5:00pm.

As a Deputy Operations Manager at FCC Environment, you will play a key role in ensuring the health and safety of all staff, contractors, and visitors, minimising environmental impact, delivering excellent customer service, and operating the site efficiently in line with budget expectations. You will deputise for the Operations Manager and manage the operation and staff of multiple waste treatment facilities.

This vacancy is for a full-time position, working five days per week.

What will you be doing?

  • Supporting and deputising for the Operations Manager
  • Managing the operation and staff of multiple waste treatment facilities to ensure safety, compliance, and financial targets are met
  • Leading and managing staff and contractors to operate safely and compliantly
  • Developing and maintaining positive relationships with regulators, customers, and suppliers
  • Overseeing the reception, inspection, processing, and dispatch of waste and treated residues
  • Developing and implementing operating procedures, work instructions, and staff training
  • Managing preventative maintenance programmes and arranging timely maintenance
  • Liaising with technical staff for sampling, assessment, and monitoring of waste processing techniques
  • Providing permits to work and operating mobile plant equipment
  • Training and mentoring new starters

What are we looking for?

  • A degree in chemistry or a related subject
  • Experience in the process (chemical) or waste treatment industry
  • Health and Safety qualification such as NEBOSH General Certificate
  • COTC for Managing Hazardous Waste Treatment/Transfer
  • Experience in the use and maintenance of mobile plant and fixed machinery
  • Satisfactory completion of the Certificate of Technical Competence and all other required training
  • The ability to motivate and lead a small team of technically qualified and manual staff
  • Organised, able to plan ahead, and adaptable to changing work requirements
  • Customer-focused, commercially aware, and able to negotiate
  • Practical approach, with the ability to manage on-site rather than from an office
