We are seeking a skilled and experienced Rail Consultant to join our Land Transport & Logistics Service Line as Rail Practice Lead for the EMEA region. Reporting to the Service Line Director, the Practice Lead will be responsible for assisting in the establishment and development of the Freight Rail business throughout the EMEA region.
Responsibilities
- Manage the Rail Practice as part of the Land Transport & Logistics (LT&L) business and have overall accountability for the business development, delivery, performance, administration and operational efficiency across the Practice;
- Coordinate Rail Practice area strategy and business development with Ports, Transport & Logistics (PTL) Hub leadership;
- Coordinate the development of a regional center of expertise in Freight Rail, in particular through strategic recruitment and mentoring for developing expertise within the team;
- Deploy project management and technical guidance regarding the various specialist skills and service offerings in the Practice, such as rail network planning, freight design and operations, rail logistics, rail infrastructure development, intermodal connectivity, and asset optimization;
- Lead the development and execution of rail studies in the initial phases of projects, including gathering and analyzing data, identifying key rail infrastructure challenges and opportunities, coordinating activities, tracking and reporting on project delivery, developing recommendations, and client liaison;
- Provide Clients with expert freight rail subject matter expertise to scope requirements, prepare proposals, and develop internal and external networks;
- Identify new business prospects within own area and beyond own scope, through working collaboratively across other internal Service Lines/Practices to develop and implement rail transport solutions that meet client needs and exceed expectations;
- Capitalize on existing client relationships and internal network in the EMEA region to build a Freight Rail client base and project capability;
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, rail operators, infrastructure managers, and other stakeholders;
- Monitor industry trends and developments to identify opportunities for innovation and improvement in rail system processes and practices;
- Represent Worley Consulting/Worley in rail-related meetings and seminars ensuring early engagement of rail expertise and understanding of rail system impacts;
- Occasional travel may be required for client meetings or project purposes.
Qualifications
- Degree qualified in Rail Engineering, Transportation, or related discipline, or with equivalent relevant and comprehensive experience in rail operations, planning, or consulting;
- Professional qualification/certification in rail transport or working towards chartership;
- 15 years minimum experience in senior freight rail consulting/design/operations positions, with a proven track record of delivering freight rail studies, infrastructure planning/operation and leading rail teams;
- Recognized by peers and industry as an authority in one or more areas of Freight Rail;
- Client focus, marketing and business development skills for provision of specialist Freight Rail consulting services;
- Firm understanding of current global freight rail trends, market dynamics, regulatory frameworks, intermodal connectivity, transportation issues and world affairs;
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines;
- Excellent communication skills (both up and down) at senior level both within Worley Consulting/Worley and to our clients and external providers;
- Capability in developing business proposals for clients, by understanding client requirements and leveraging expertise from across a multi-disciplinary team;
- A collaborative style of working that fosters teamwork and innovation;
- Effective compliance with Worley Consulting/Worley company policies and procedures relating to rail management.
