Are you calm under pressure, passionate about supporting young people and able to make a genuine difference? Cover People are looking for a resilient and enthusiastic SEMH Learning Support Assistant to join an alternative provision attached to a welcoming mainstream primary school. The provision supports a small group of pupils who require additional help with their social, emotional and mental health needs. You will help children regulate their emotions, engage positively with learning and develop the confidence needed to succeed in school.

What will the role involve?

  • Supporting pupils with SEMH, SEND and behavioural needs
  • Building positive, trusting relationships with children
  • Helping pupils regulate their emotions and remain engaged
  • Delivering activities individually and in small groups
  • Using positive behaviour-management and de-escalation strategies
  • Supporting English, maths and enrichment activities
  • Creating consistent routines, expectations and boundaries
  • Working closely with teachers and the school's pastoral team

We would love to hear from someone who:

  • Has experience supporting children or young people with additional needs
  • Is calm, patient, resilient and emotionally consistent
  • Can combine warmth and empathy with firm boundaries
  • Remains composed when faced with challenging situations
  • Is proactive, reliable and fully committed to the role
  • Holds Team Teach or similar positive-handling training, although this is desirable rather than essential
