DT Technician - Secondary School

Cover People are currently working in partnership with a well-established secondary school in the Glossop area to recruit a reliable and skilled Design & Technology (DT) Technician to provide long-term cover for a member of staff currently absent due to sickness.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced DT Technician, workshop technician, practical specialist, or someone with a strong background in Design & Technology to join a supportive school environment and play an important role in supporting both staff and students.

The Role

As a DT Technician, you will provide essential practical and technical support to the school's Design & Technology department, helping ensure lessons, workshops, and practical activities run safely and effectively.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing and organising materials, tools, and equipment for DT lessons
  • Supporting teachers with practical demonstrations and classroom activities
  • Maintaining and organising workshops, equipment, and resources
  • Ensuring tools and machinery are safe, maintained, and ready for use
  • Supporting students during practical activities where appropriate
  • Assisting with the preparation of projects and practical coursework
  • Following appropriate health and safety procedures at all times
  • Helping maintain a clean, safe, and well-organised workshop environment

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Previous experience working as a DT Technician, Workshop Technician, Engineering Technician, or similar practical role
  • A strong understanding of Design & Technology workshop environments
  • Confidence working with tools, machinery, materials, and practical equipment
  • Good organisational and time-management skills
  • Strong awareness of health and safety requirements
  • The ability to work independently while supporting teaching staff effectively
  • A professional, reliable, and proactive approach
  • A genuine interest in supporting young people within an educational environment

School experience is desirable but not essential - relevant industry, workshop, engineering, construction, or practical experience will also be considered.
