Cover People are working with a secondary school in Stockport to recruit a reliable and enthusiastic DT Technician to support the Design & Technology department on a long-term basis, covering staff sickness.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced DT Technician, Workshop Technician, Engineering Technician or practical specialist who enjoys working in an educational environment and wants to play an important role in supporting teachers and students with practical learning.
The successful candidate will help ensure the department's workshops, equipment and resources are fully prepared, safe and ready for lessons, while providing practical support to both staff and students.
The Role
As a DT Technician, your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing and setting up materials, tools and equipment for Design & Technology lessons.
- Supporting teachers with practical demonstrations, projects and classroom activities.
- Maintaining and organising DT workshops, machinery, tools and resources.
- Ensuring equipment and machinery is safe, clean and ready for use.
- Supporting students with practical tasks and the safe use of tools and equipment.
- Preparing materials for practical projects and coursework.
- Carrying out routine checks and reporting any issues with equipment or machinery.
- Supporting the department with stock control and ordering of materials where required.
- Maintaining a safe, organised and effective workshop environment.
- Following all relevant health and safety procedures at all times.
The Ideal DT Technician Will Have
The school is looking for someone who is practical, organised and confident working within a workshop environment.
You will ideally have:
- Previous experience as a DT Technician, Workshop Technician, Engineering Technician or in a similar practical role.
- Strong knowledge of workshop tools, machinery, materials and practical processes.
- An understanding of health and safety requirements when working with tools and machinery.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to prepare resources efficiently.
- The confidence to work independently and as part of a wider Design & Technology department.
- A calm, professional and proactive approach.
- Good communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students.
- A genuine interest in supporting young people with practical and technical learning.
Previous experience working within a school is desirable but not essential. Candidates with relevant experience from engineering, manufacturing, construction, workshops or other practical/technical environments are encouraged to apply.
