Cover People are currently working in partnership with a welcoming and community-focused secondary school in the Heaton Chapel area of Stockport to recruit a reliable, proactive and hands-on Caretaker for a full-time position starting ASAP.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Caretaker, Site Assistant, Facilities Assistant or someone with a strong practical background who takes pride in maintaining a safe, clean and welcoming environment for students, staff and visitors.
The successful candidate will play an important role in the day-to-day running of the school, supporting the wider site and facilities team and helping ensure the school remains a safe and well-maintained environment.

The Role
As a Caretaker, you will support the school's Site and Facilities team with the effective day-to-day operation and maintenance of the school premises.
Responsibilities are likely to include:
- Carrying out general maintenance and basic repairs around the school site
- Ensuring classrooms, communal areas and external areas are safe, clean and well maintained
- Supporting the opening and closing of the school premises
- Carrying out routine site checks and reporting any maintenance or health and safety issues
- Assisting with furniture, equipment and room set-ups
- Supporting contractors and external visitors when required
- Maintaining outdoor areas and the general appearance of the school site
- Responding promptly to practical issues that arise during the school day
- Supporting the school in maintaining a safe environment for students, staff and visitors
- Following school health and safety, safeguarding and site procedures
The Ideal Candidate

You will ideally have:
- Previous experience in a Caretaker, Site Assistant, Facilities, Maintenance or similar practical role
- Good general maintenance and DIY skills
- The ability to identify and respond to maintenance issues
- Strong organisational and time-management skills
- Good communication skills and a professional manner
- The ability to work independently and as part of a wider team
- A flexible and positive approach to supporting the needs of the school
- A strong awareness of health and safety
- A commitment to providing a safe and welcoming environment for young people
