Behaviour Mentor with Sports Intervention - Oldham

Cover People are actively looking for full time sports coaches with UK based experience working with children, preferably aged 11-16 years old. We have schools in Oldham interested in sports coaches looking to transition into mainstream education by becoming a Behaviour Mentor with Sports Intervention, supporting children in small groups, on a one-to-one basis and across their mainstream timetable.

The role will be a long-term basis in a Good rated secondary school in the heart of Oldham, supporting and mentoring children aged 11-16 across mainstream classes. As part of the role, you will also deliver tailor-made Sports Intervention sessions designed to support learners with the regulation of their emotions, confidence, engagement and overall wellbeing. These sessions will use sport and physical activity as a positive tool to help learners develop emotional regulation and re-engage with their education.

The school looks for versatile applicants who'd be able to engage young people despite potential challenges with behaviour, specific educational needs or SEMH needs. You will support learners across their timetable in mainstream subjects, while also providing targeted intervention through sport where appropriate.

In the first instance, you'd be booked for a one day trial day.

The school is often complimented for being a supportive and welcoming community-led school.

Benefits

  • We offer a pathway to working within mainstream schools
  • Opportunity to deliver Sports Intervention and use your coaching skills within an educational setting
  • Competitive pay rates
  • Lucrative Referral Scheme
  • On-going support from your dedicated Consultant
  • Supportive SEND department and Senior Leadership team
  • Full time position (8.30am-3.00pm Monday to Friday)

Requirements

  • A passion to work with children and young people
  • Recent experience supporting children or sports coaching experience
  • Experience or interest in using sport and physical activity to support emotional regulation and engagement
  • Person-centred approach
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Passion to impact students by creating a safe and productive environment for children
  • Ability to build positive relationships with learners and support them across mainstream subjects

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. The above vacancy is a temporary position. Occasionally, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date. We offer flexibility with this, as we understand some candidates may not wish to commit to a permanent contract.

I've deliberately made the Sports Intervention element sound purposeful and education-focused β€” particularly the emotional regulation and tailored sessions β€” while keeping the advert appealing to sports coaches transitioning into education.
