We’re looking for a Senior Legal Counsel – Payments Commercial & Regulatory to join our ever-evolving High Risk, Payment Models and Partnerships team to help us unleash the potential of every business.

About the role
In this role, you will manage legal business matters to protect the enterprise’s position and rights relating to regulatory matters and compliance, including financial crime compliance, high risk merchant and payment models, contract development, bank, payment network and other commercial partnerships, negotiations and guidance, disputes, settlements and supporting pre-litigation matters, and business practices.
As part of a legal team with 200 attorneys and paraprofessionals, your focus will be on areas key to the business and compliance and financial crime compliance function, including relating to Worldpay’s acceptance and management of high risk merchants, product offerings including related to regulated services, regulatory compliance projects, the establishment of new payment models and regulatory or market changes, and relating to partnerships including commercial, network and bank partnerships, regulatory, payments law, corporate compliance, litigation support, intellectual property, financial crime and transaction support.

Our Legal, Risk, Compliance and Audit teams ensure we’re doing business the right way. They help us balance a healthy risk appetite, so we’re empowered to expand our horizons.
The High Risk, Payment Models and Partnerships team consists of two senior lawyers, growing to three with this role. By its nature, the team deals with some of the most complex legal matters facing the enterprise and has a strong focus on working with many LCRA (Legal, Compliance, Risk and Audit) and other stakeholders on a broad range of matters.
What you’ll own
- Act as a legal advisor to Worldpay LCRA, commercial and product stakeholders with a focus on areas key to the business and compliance (including financial crime compliance) function.
- Provide advice and guidance to the sales and products teams in addressing regulatory compliance, licensing, business and reporting matters.
- Coordinate, manage and validate advice from external counsel within a budget.
- Support our Global Enterprise key priorities and Long Range Plan.
- Provide legal and regulatory guidance on the design, modification and geographical expansion of products.
- Translate legal and regulatory requirements into functional specifications and standard operational procedures.
- Prepare and negotiate contracts and other legal documentation relating to partners including bank partners and payment networks.
- Perform legal research and analysis on commercial contracts and information technology law issues.
- Advise colleagues on legal issues relating to commercial contracts, product development and compliance.
What you bring
- Experience advising on commercial, regulatory and financial crime compliance matters.
- Experience drafting and negotiating services agreements and general commercial contracts.
- Ability to review and evaluate multi-faceted issues and counsel business colleagues on complex legal questions.
- Licensed to practice law in the UK (expected minimum 8 years PQE) and/or at least one other European country.
Added bonus if you have:
Experience in fin-tech / payment services and e-money regulations, supporting high risk merchant types, advising on payment models including marketplaces, advising on product development and expansion.
