The Opportunity
Worldline is looking for a Head of Enterprise Architecture and DevOps to lead and develop the software and hardware development and programming activities across each of our product areas within Transport Retail for the UK and new markets. The role blends direct technical leadership for our common back office systems (Platform) with broader oversight of cross functional and programme specific DevOps activities, developers, analysts and solution architects, across the wider Business Unit. The Head of Enterprise Architecture and DevOps sits within the Transport Retail UK Business Unit, reporting to the Head of Transport Retail UKI, and will work across the business unit to prioritise and support the design and development of our suite of technical systems; as well as managing the onshore and offshore teams delivering developments to target and on-budget. It will have a dotted line through to the Transport & Mobility Chief Technology Officer’s team.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- You will support the Head of Transport Retail UKI in developing and owning robust and reliable software and hardware development lifecycles and plans across the business unit.
- You will lead developers, analysts and solution architects in developing and delivering software solutions specified by product managers, business analysts and the product delivery teams within the Transport Retail Business Unit.
- Develop and implement architectural frameworks, principles, and methodologies, ensuring alignment with the business strategy.
- Ensure that architectural standards are adhered to across all projects and initiatives through reviews.
- Responsible for the creation of architecture and design of solutions with a holistic horizontal and vertical view spanning products within Transport Retail.
- Looking at the ‘art of the possible’ for solutions, with a pragmatic and achievable delivery focus.
- You will manage the prioritisation of strategic software and hardware development activities across the business unit in response to requests from product delivery heads where these go beyond their own run and repair capabilities.
- You will drive the adoption of modern tooling, processes, and methodologies (e.g., DevOps, Agile/Scrum) to enhance productivity.
- Oversee the implementation and management of DevOps practices, tools, and methodologies across the organization.
- Champion a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the architecture and DevOps teams.
- Enhance collaboration between development, operations, and other departments to improve efficiency and productivity.
- Drive automation initiatives to increase deployment frequency and reduce the time to market for new features.
- You will manage and sponsor complex software programmes across the business unit to ensure they are resourced sustainably and delivered on time and on budget.
- You will own the technical roadmap and development of the back-office systems (Platform) used across the business unit and how this feeds into, and supports, the wider business unit’s strategic vision in conjunction with the specific product managers functional product roadmap.
- Engage with Worldline security and compliance teams to ensure systems meet security and data protection standards.
- Assess the business impact of technical choices.
- Keeping abreast of current and emerging technologies, proposing changes where needed.
- Resolving technical problems as they arise.
Who Are We Looking For

- Proven experience in leading software development teams in a C#/.NET environment delivering operational systems to end-users.
- 5+ years experience in managing diverse technical teams, comprising programmers, analysts and testers, that have delivered across multiple projects.
- Experience in shaping product delivery roadmaps and in delivering software solutions in an Agile environment on time and on budget.
- Proficiency in cloud platforms (e.g. Google Cloud and AWS).
- Experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., ADO, Jenkins, GitLab CI).
- Strong understanding of microservices architecture and containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Strong communication skills, capable of engaging with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Analytical mindset with a focus on problem-solving and decision-making.
- Experience in collaborating with product managers, solutions architects and testers in delivering robust roadmaps translating business needs into development.
- Proven team management experience with a track record of building skilled teams, navigating competing programme demands and motivating diverse teams across multiple projects and locations.
- Experience in managing financial budgets, forecasting resourcing requirements and relationships with third parties.
