We are seeking a Product Owner to join our Transport Retail UK team. The role entails collaboration with cross-functional teams including Product Managers, Business Analysts, Engineering, Test, and other stakeholders to define the product vision, manage the product backlog, and prioritise features that deliver high-quality services aligned with our Business Strategy in an agile environment. The role involves coordinating with teams across multiple locations to ensure what we build delivers tangible business benefits for our customers. The role focuses primarily on the UK rail industry. Our portfolio includes systems for fares and timetabling, journey planning, ticket purchase, accounting, and after-sales support. As we modernise, we are moving toward centralised APIs and cloud-native services. The successful candidate will help deliver the vision for how the back-office services will enrich the features across our Transport Retail product portfolio, delivering a flexible, scalable, and cohesive suite of services that can adapt to changing needs while remaining maintainable for our teams and valuable for end users. We are always looking at new ways to innovate, improve quality and reduce costs, building excellent solutions with customers at the heart of what we do.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Primary liaison between internal technical and functional teams to align the product vision with clear business goals and ensure transparency across the organisation.
  • Own the product backlog, prioritising and refining backlog items based on business value, technical requirements and stakeholder feedback.
  • Collaborate with BAs to write clear, concise user stories with well-defined acceptance criteria.
  • Actively participate in and contribute to scrum ceremonies, providing direction and making rapid, informed decisions on features and prioritisation within the Agile framework.
  • Ensure in-sprint deliverables meet acceptance criteria and deliver the intended business benefits.
  • Communicate product updates, priorities, and progress to stakeholders in a timely and transparent manner.
  • Support roadmap planning and help ensure delivery aligns with strategic goals and measurable outcomes.
  • Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify trends, opportunities and stay up to date on emerging technologies, regulatory changes, and industry best practices.

Who Are We Looking For

  • 4+ years of experience as a Product Owner or in a similar product-management role.
  • Proven experience working in an Agile/Scrum development setting.
  • Strong understanding of product lifecycle management and backlog governance.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly to cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Experience gathering requirements from stakeholders and translating them into well-formed user stories (with acceptance criteria).
  • Strong stakeholder management and interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
  • Proficiency with product management tools such as Azure DevOps, Jira, and Confluence.
  • Knowledge of modern practices and technologies, with interest in transport/retail domain systems.

Other Skills (Desirable)

  • Exposure to API-driven architectures and centralised API management.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS or Google Cloud preferred).
  • Understanding of security, compliance, and data governance considerations in a transport/retail context.
  • Product Owner or relevant certification.
