World Wide Technology (WWT), a global technology integrator and IT solutions provider, has an opportunity for an IAAS Engineer. This is a contract role outside IR35 with a duration of 6 months, located in the United Kingdom (Remote).
Role Overview
The IAAS and CAAS engineers will ensure successful implementation of Windriver and Redhat Clusters to predefined designs and methods of procedures. Senior WWT Architects and OEMs will create the design, with OEMs building the first 1-2 clusters alongside the WWT architects and engineers. When the design, method of procedure and initial cluster builds have been delivered, the engineers will take over deploying the remaining clusters to standard which will provide the core platform for workload migration. This is a hands-on role requiring significant experience in deployment and contributing to design discussions. Automation, including Zero Touch Provisioning, is a foundational element of the project.
Responsibilities
- Work with client to deploy infrastructure required to support target applications which will be migrated to the new Cloud platforms on Red Hat OpenShift and Wind River IaaS Platforms.
- Develop High- and Low-level designs for the solution along with the assigned WWT Architect.
- Cocreate methods of procedure to build out clusters following OEM builds.
- Cocreate test plans for customer acceptance aligned to the agreed requirements.
- Collaborate, manage and respect the needs of a wide range of stakeholders.
- Ensure any infrastructure requirements demanded by the workloads are catered for by the infrastructure.
- Liaise with stakeholders and attend face-to-face workshops in either WWT or VMO2 offices as necessary.
- Liaise with OEMs (Windriver and Redhat) to align on design and core build activities.
- Enable day two resource to support clusters in early life support.
- Provide knowledge transfer and documentation to customer operations teams.
- Ensure alignment with automation framework for integration and zero touch provisioning at scale.
What we are looking for
- Experience designing and building on-prem Kubernetes environments, preferably on Red Hat OpenShift.
- Experience designing and building on-prem Windriver IaaS platforms.
- Experience working in a Telco environment with knowledge of regulatory considerations and TSA awareness (Telecoms Security Act).
- Experience building High- and Low-level design documents.
- Work with Red Hat Virtualization (RHV) and container platforms (OpenShift/Kubernetes) team for cloud-native deployments.
- Experience in bare metal deployments leveraging automation and ZTP (zero touch provisioning).
- Have a flexible and ‘can do’ attitude with a strong sense of initiative with the ability to learn fast and deal calmly with situations under pressure.
- Have strong organization and planning skills to manage multiple tasks.
- Experience with VMware (Vsphere / VSAN / NSX-T) and migrations/replatforming from VMware into Redhat/Windriver.
- For OpenShift, experience with their TNC reference architecture is a big plus.
- From a networking perspective, MetalLB and service mesh (Istio).
- For Storage, experience with Pure and Portworx would be good.
- For the IaaS component, OpenStack is being used, both Redhat and Windriver.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to discuss technical topics with a range of technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Foundational knowledge of building these clusters onto Arista or Cisco networks would also be beneficial.
- Awareness of CICD pipelines, gitlab and general DevOps principles would also be beneficial as you will be working with Architects responsible for automation.
