Here\’s where you come in:

As a Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Advisor during a response, you will provide technical guidance for programming, clinical supervision, and capacity building of staff, implementing partners, and guiding mental health and psychosocial support interventions. You will ensure effective implementation and monitoring of psychological interventions related to support of field and office operations.

You must promote and encourage a culture of compliance and ethics throughout the implementation, maintaining understanding of the refugee context, donor compliance, and ethics standards, and adhering to those standards. You will conduct work with integrity and communicate World Vision’s Mission, Vision, and Values to staff and partners.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Oversee the technical quality of programming and expertise of staff, following international best practices and emerging evidence.
  2. Provide clinical supervision to staff offering mental health and psychosocial support services and create a peer supervisory network.
  3. Participate in developing and implementing group-based psychosocial programming.
  4. Develop and disseminate plans and guidelines supporting sound MHPSS strategies tailored to different contexts.
  5. Ensure proper planning and implementation of mental health and psychosocial support interventions.
  6. Ensure grant interventions are implemented within schedule, plans, and budgets, and review project status regularly.
  7. Provide technical support to field teams and partners on recognized MHPSS models and approaches (e.g., Problem Management Plus, IPT-G, SH+, DWM).
  8. Ensure partners and government entities have adequate skills to deliver psychosocial support, providing training and supervision as needed.
  9. Support structured MHPSS activities for children and vulnerable groups, ensuring assistance is provided respectfully and inclusively.
  10. Train staff and partners on PFA and ensure their confidence in using it.
  11. Coordinate with global MHPSS technical advisors to develop training materials and supervision tools.
  12. Guarantee compliance with WHO guidelines and inter-agency standards across interventions.
  13. Maintain safety and care standards, reporting risks and adverse events.
  14. Contribute to proposal writing, donor reports, and internal reports.
  15. Monitor and support high-quality programming through regular field visits and capacity building.
  16. Develop and revise training and monitoring tools.
  17. Coordinate research projects and evidence-based practices.
  18. Conduct regular file fidelity checks and ensure high-quality service delivery.
  19. Integrate MHPSS across sectors and promote community-level activities.
  20. Oversee client tracking and supervision documentation.
  21. Ensure timely and quality reporting.
  22. Disseminate promising practices and facilitate forums for learning.
  23. Support development of technical papers and policy briefs.
  24. Lead capacity building for the MHPSS team and partners.
  25. Conduct trainings on case management, psychological first aid, and evidence-based interventions.
  26. Refine psychosocial assessment protocols and support team self-care activities.
  27. Assess staff competencies and plan capacity support.
  28. Prepare training materials and build skills of project staff and community workers.
  29. Ensure ethical and quality research processes.
  30. Lead advocacy and collaboration with government and partners.
  31. Participate in committees and task forces as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. Degree in Counselling Psychology, Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or related field.
  2. Master’s degree or equivalent is preferred.
  3. Psychological Practice License or Accreditation is advantageous.
  4. Knowledge of public health, protection, human rights, and project management is a plus.
  5. Minimum 3 years’ experience in mental health and psychosocial support in humanitarian settings, including supervisory roles.
  6. Experience providing clinical supervision and setting up supervisory models for large-scale MHPSS programs.
  7. Experience working with implementing partners in humanitarian contexts.
  8. Experience conducting trainings and developing training materials.
  9. Strong organizational, supervisory, and interpersonal skills, with cultural sensitivity.
  10. Ability to work independently and under stress, with flexibility.
  11. Training in Problem Management (PM+), PFA, IPT-G, mhGAP, and other interventions.
  12. Experience delivering CBT and facilitating training for non-specialists.
  13. Understanding of community-based MHPSS approaches.
  14. Effective communication skills in English; knowledge of additional UN languages is a plus.
  15. Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
  16. Work hours may extend beyond 12 hours during emergencies, often in insecure environments.
