World Tennis is the global governing body of tennis. World Tennis is responsible for the worldwide development of tennis through its highly regarded Development Programme, its Science and Technical department which monitors equipment and technology, and its Officiating department which oversees the education and advancement of officials. World Tennis is the owner and co-owner of the two largest annual international team competitions in tennis, the Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup (BJKC) by Gainbridge and manages the Olympic and Paralympic Tennis Events on behalf of the IOC and IPC. World Tennis organises over 3,500 weeks of men’s, women’s and junior tournaments on the World Tennis Tour, World Tennis Beach Tour, UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Tour and the World Tennis Masters Tour. World Tennis upholds the highest standards of integrity and is a partner in the International Tennis Integrity Agency.

Overview of Department:

The Juniors team is responsible for the World Tennis Tour Juniors, which features over 1,000 tournaments in 140 nations. The Tour provides competition opportunities for elite junior players and a launch pad to learn, develop and compete before the professional game. The department is also responsible for the delivery of World Tennis owned competitions including the 14U Junior Team Competition, Davis Cup Juniors & Billie Jean King Cup Juniors, and the World Tennis Tour Junior Finals. The team forms part of the World Tennis Tours and Player Pathway department, and on occasion it may be required for the Team Lead to work on projects or events in support of other Tours.

The Role:

Work with the Senior Manager, Juniors to lead the operations of the World Tennis Junior Team Competitions and other activities as part of World Tennis’s Junior tennis strategy. This role may include some travel, sometimes for extended periods and at weekends.

Act as liaison between the Senior Manager, Juniors Tennis, the Juniors Committee and Juniors Tennis community to facilitate the implementation of the agreed strategy for activities and associated events.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead on the organization, and delivery of Junior Team Regional Qualifying events, with pre- event assistance and attendance at major events, junior competitions and other events as required.
  • Lead on the organisation of the World Tennis 14&U Junior Team Finals, culminating in on site delivery alongside other Juniors department members
  • Assist the Senior Manager with the organisation and delivery of the Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup Junior Finals
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with external authorities (Regional and National Associations) to ensure the World Tennis’s junior interests are professionally represented.
  • Support Juniors stakeholders during the launch of the new World Tennis brand, including monitoring and promoting adherence to the World Tennis Tour Juniors brand guidelines amongst Tournament Directors and National Associations. Work with World Tennis Branding, Digital and Commercial teams where required to produce and distribute new branding items to stakeholders
  • Monitor and promote the World Tennis Tour Juniors Education programme through courses on World Tennis Academy, ensuring courses are reviewed on a regular basis alongside the Education team to ensure relevance and accuracy
  • Work with other World Tennis departments and personnel, including but not limited to:
  • Legal – to provide consultative briefings relevant to Code of Conduct, Eligibility and other issues as required.
  • ICT – to ensure efficient and effective systems are implemented for players, National Associations and for internal administration.
  • Safeguarding – to ensure the World Tennis Tour Juniors and Junior Team Competitions provide a safe playing environment for participants.
  • Finance – to ensure efficient and effective budgeting and collection of monies due.
  • Assist the Senior Manager to manage, develop and monitor: the day-to-day operation of the Tour; Tour ICT programmes (tournament results, ranking, database, player online entry system); Tour support programmes (player welfare and player education); Juniors budgets.
  • Monitor, uphold and implement the World Tennis Tour Juniors Tennis Regulations, Organisational Requirements and Code of Conduct, identify and consult on potential enhancements and in consultation with Tour colleagues ensure any necessary and ongoing alignment with other World Tennis Tour regulations and processes.
  • Undertake other responsibilities as required by the Senior Manager/Executive Director.

You will have…

  • Strong administrative skills and attention to detail/accuracy
  • A high level of knowledge, skill and experience in sport governance, internal and external committees, rules and regulations, child protection/player welfare issues, player education.
  • Knowledge and experience of junior tennis and/or disability sport would be beneficial.
  • Effective interpersonal, communication and supervisory skills are important, and the ability to manage relationships within a team and aid personal development of staff members.
  • Excellent time and project management, delegation, decision-making and skilled in planning and delivery of multiple projects and delivering to hard deadlines
  • Proficiency in using ICT systems and databases
  • Flexibility – hours can be long and weekend travel may be part of the role
  • Applicants should be fluent in both written and spoken English; a high level of Spanish and / or French is desired; other languages also desirable.

  • Working hours: based on 35 hours per week. Normal office hours are 09:00 – 17:00 Monday to Friday. Flexible working hours possible with core hours of 10am – 4pm (although weekend work and longer hours are a part of the role when travelling)
