Ensuring the safe and efficient operation of automated manual handling and conveyor equipment in a busy fulfilment‑centre warehouse.

As a junior Maintenance Engineer, you’ll ensure that operational and conveyor equipment is kept running safely and is well maintained. You will focus on planned preventative maintenance as well as carry out reactive maintenance to deal with any breakdowns or emergencies.

Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the Facilities Manager with basic tasks including minor repairs, upkeep of the building and fixtures, painting, and asset monitoring.
  • Leading by example to establish and ensure a positive health & safety culture.
  • Agreeing maintenance priorities and schedules with internal customers.
  • Ensuring completeness and accuracy of maintenance records.
  • Communicating with external support providers to resolve complex issues.
  • Providing reports on the performance of the machinery and conveyors.
  • Proactively identifying and implementing continuous improvement initiatives to maximise the efficiency of automation and operations.
  • Managing spare parts inventory, including ordering, organising and tracking usage to ensure availability of critical components and reduce downtime.

Qualifications

  • Experience of providing engineering support in a warehouse or production environment is essential.
  • Understanding of electrical and mechanical engineering disciplines gained in a production or warehouse environment, including maintaining conveyors and manual handling equipment (MHE).
  • Qualification in an appropriate engineering discipline at national Level 3 or above.
  • Experience of managing and fault‑finding on automated equipment including packaging machinery, sortation and conveyor systems – desirable.
  • Good written and spoken communication skills.
  • Good computer skills such as MS Office and automation monitoring tools – desirable.

Normal hours of work will be 12‑hour shifts, from 8.00am – 8.00pm, on a rota of 4 days on and 4 days off. However, you will sometimes need to be flexible in terms of hours worked, especially in peak trading periods.

Occasional travel may be required to other sites in the UK.
