The London office represents WFP’s interests in the UK – with government, parliament, the media, the private sector, NGOs and academic institutions. Our role is to inform, influence and build understanding of the global humanitarian context, a function that has become even more critical as the operating environment grows more complex and politically sensitive.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The main responsibilities of the Fellow will be to:

  • Lead a policy-oriented research project on the future of UK development policy, identifying opportunities for WFP London to maximise its influence across government, Parliament, NGOs and think tanks.
  • Analyse trends and evidence from country offices and policy teams to provide a strong evidence base on the implications of UK funding cuts on WFP operations to inform our advocacy and communications.
  • Work with colleagues to deepen relationships with NGOs, think tanks and other key stakeholders, attending relevant debates, seminars and sector events to strengthen our engagement.
  • Contribute to core team activities, including strategic planning, weekly meetings and other tasks as required to support WFP London’s external relations and advocacy work.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Be a Master's student or a graduate;
  • Excellent written and spoken English is required (proficiency/level C). Working knowledge of another official UN language (French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Russian plus Portuguese) is an asset but not essential.

SOFT SKILLS

  • Excellent analytical and research skills;
  • Work effectively in a multi-cultural environment and international organisation including with remote colleagues;
  • Strong communication skills;
  • Motivated team spirit and contributed to an inclusive and sound working environment (team player).

LEARNING ELEMENTS

At the end of the assignment, the selected candidate should have:

  • An excellent understanding of the UK’s advocacy and development policy landscape, as well as the wider political context;
  • Experience of engaging with stakeholders (parliamentary, think tanks, NGOs);
  • An excellent understanding of the UN WFP's role in a changing development and humanitarian landscape.

TYPE OF ASSIGNMENT

This opportunity is particularly well-suited for students or recent graduates seeking practical experience in an international organization. It offers valuable exposure to WFP’s operations and the chance to contribute meaningfully to its mission.

The selected candidate will receive IT equipment and training material; however, financial compensation and medical coverage are not provided by WFP. Applicants may seek alternative funding opportunities, such as university grants or external scholarships, to support their assignment.
