The Energy Investments, Solutions & Impact team (KIESI) is part of the WBG Knowledge Bank. Our unit seeks to accelerate critical private sector investments in energy infrastructure, including by leveraging the Knowledge Bank resources to promote initiatives and innovative financing products. KIESI is recruiting an E T Consultant to support Principal and Senior Industry Specialists in providing technical advice and expertise to regional investment teams. The main focus of the position will be on renewable energy projects in the Africa and Europe regions. The position will be based in London and will report to the KIESI Manager in Washington D.C.

Duties and Accountabilities:

  • Support technical due diligence for IFC power projects, including solar PV, wind, and other generation technologies, to inform investment decisions and ensure compliance with IFC standards.
  • Provide analysis on the design, construction, and operational performance of energy projects, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and emerging market conditions.
  • Evaluate and validate capital cost estimates, operating parameters, and financial models for energy projects to inform investment decisions.
  • Support the development and implementation of energy projects in emerging markets, ensuring technical soundness.
  • Monitor and analyze global trends in renewable energy technologies, costs, and market developments to provide actionable insights for IFC's investment and advisory activities.
  • Contribute to capacity-building initiatives by sharing technical expertise and best practices with colleagues and stakeholders to enhance IFC's impact in the energy sector.

Selection Criteria:

  • A Master's degree in engineering, with a focus on energy, or a closely related field.
  • Preferably a minimum 5 years of recent relevant experience in the electric power industry, with a strong preference for experience in the private sector and emerging markets.
  • Demonstrated expertise in renewable energy technologies, particularly solar PV and wind, including up-to-date knowledge of capital costs, operating parameters, contracting terms and technical advancements.
  • Proven track record in one or more of the following roles on energy projects in emerging markets: Lenders' Technical Advisor, Owner's Engineer, or EPC contracting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English with fluency in French and Spanish.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex technical and financial data, provide clear recommendations, and contribute to decision-making processes.
